Home for Irish Setter Lovers Around the World
Went in the shopping centre today and saw 2 Irish Setter puppies, apparently a breeder sold them and gave them papers etc! And guess what? At the same pet store that Ruby was from!!!

Hi Ricky,
I agree with you and do not patronise any shop that sells puppies. Luckily, where I live there is only one shop that does it now. I have just joined our local Kennel Club and we have all become Regisitered Breeders with our local council so I will bring it up at the next meeting to see if we can put pressure on the local council to stop the practice altogether.
The Limited Register, in my opinion, is absolutely useless when it comes to puppy farmers. I also have Tibetan Spaniels, a small breed, and very popular with puppy mills. I am always worried letting any of my pups go....Irish or Tibbies. But early desexing also brings complications as someone I know in Sydney lost 3 puppies to early desexing.
Caught between a rock and a hard place!!!! You can't keep them all and unfortunately, the honest truth, is that once they leave your property, you have no control over what happens to them.
I have heard that some breeders withholding the papers until they have proof of desexing but that is against our Canine regulations. I offer a refund to my buyers when I have proof of desexing and that works fairly well. I know that Irish shouldn't be desexed...but perhaps advice and support over coat maintenance is better than pups in pet stores.
Cheers,
Carmel
