Week 12 (and 11) Update - Posted September 30, 2007

Hi Everyone - Sorry for not getting a weekly update out last week but I just couldn't make time to do it. This is an attempt at a double issue to catch us all up. There may be more of these double issues in the future as my work hours will continue to be crazy through the end of November.

We added 13 new members over the last two weeks, pushing our numbers to 288. To see and greet our new members, go to http://irishsetters.ning.com/profiles/friend/list

We added an additional 350 photos, taking us to over 3,800. To see and comment on all of the great photos, go to http://irishsetters.ning.com/photo

After a brief lull, our video section is getting some uploads. We added 10 new videos, bringing us to 37.
- Monika Sliwinska of Poland provided us a video of Zambi and her warming up before her first
show.
- Agnieszka Rola of Poland uploaded a video of Conner winning a wrestling match with his
favorite blanket. She also uploaded another video of a dog playing that I had technical
problems watching. Hopefully, it plays for others.
- Charlotte Godart of Belgium uploaded a couple of nice videos from the Ostende CACIB dog
show complete with some sub-titles. They looked very professional. I wish I was that good
at video editing!
- I uploaded a video from the Irish Setter Club of Ft. Worth TX Specialty Show - September 23,
2007 that I know some of our members attended.
- Kasia Czapla of Poland, who may have the best collection of multi-Setter photos on this site,
showed us a trade secret in getting Setters to pose. I could NEVER get mine to do that!
- Jelena Kreitmayer of the USA uploaded a video of Lego in a fun dog fight with BFF Di.
- Ulla Oinas of Sweden also posted a fun dog fight/play video with a beautiful back drop. Ulla,
I would love to have the view out my back window that you do.

To see and comment on all of our videos, go to http://irishsetters.ning.com/video

The group continues to come up with interesting discussion topics in our forum.
- Susan Stone of Switzerland started on entitled “Are Irish Setters intelligent?’
- Ursula Wilby of Sweden started several interesting discussions:
* Irritating things that OTHER dog-owners do...
* What is your particular "Pet-hate" when it comes to faults?
* Retrieving setters?
- Loma Clark of the USA started “Stacking a dog”.
- Carmel Murphy of Ireland posted on entitled “Over trimming or shaving of the Show Irish Red
Setter?”
- Jessica Nay of of the USA started “Show vs Field/American vs Overseas”.

Join in the discussion by going to: http://irishsetters.ning.com/forum

We now have 14 groups. Yvonne’s Gordon Setter group is up to 10 proud members. Mistylake of Finland started Mistylake, which I assume is a kennel. Monica who I believe is from Canada started on for agility enthusiasts.

To see existing, join, or start a new group, go to http://irishsetters.ning.com/groups

blogged on the Innsbruck International, Austria on August 25.

Week 14 (and 13) Update - Posted October 14, 2007

Hi Everyone – Here’s another attempt at a double issue. My work hours are getting worse but hopefully for just another couple months. If you need something, it may be best to send me an email as I am not able to spend as much time on our site as I would like. And I am behind about 40 welcome emails as well. We did achieve a couple milestones this week – our 300th member and our 4,000th photo!

We added 16 new members over the last two weeks, pushing our numbers to 301. To see and greet our new members, go to http://irishsetters.ning.com/profiles/friend/list

We added an additional 250 photos, taking us to over 4,050. To see and comment on all of the great photos, go to http://irishsetters.ning.com/photo

We added 4 new videos bringing our numbers to 41:
- Diana van der Valk of the Netherlands posted ‘Setterbeach’, a great video of 7 Setters playing
in the surf and sand. I am glad my dogs were sleeping when I watched it because they would
have been extremely jealous. Those dogs looked like they were having the time of their lives!
- Fran Griffin of the UK posted ‘Tallulah does agility’. I have only seen one agility show in person
and Tallulah would have won it hands down.
- Michele Roche of Australia shared a video of Jessa having a blast with pine cones. And if that
is your side yard Michele you also have an incredible backyard view!
- Paula Rausch of the USA shared a video of ‘Jet and Hogan’ . Was it Jet or Hogan that was
enjoying the ‘giant drinking bowl’? :-)

To see and comment on all of our videos, go to http://irishsetters.ning.com/video

Discussion forums continue to generate opinions:

Setter?
- Laura Kolbach of Hungary started ‘Funny faces in the ring - or elsewhere’.
- Ginger Kinney of the US started a couple new ones, one on ‘Separation Anxiety’ which I bet
a lot of members could contribute to, and one on ‘FCI STANDARD- Size changes put in
place?’.
- Ursula Wilby of Sweden started one on ‘irritating things other dog owners do’.

own an Irish Setter?’ and ‘Are Irish Setters intelligent?’.

- Monique Viry of France, started a thread titled ‘Quel avenir pour le setter irlandais en France ?’
I enjoyed reading, or at least trying to follow along.
- Katariina Roiha of Finland started one entitled ‘Problems’ and other members reported other
site issues. Maybe we could use this to share issues we are having with our site and
suggestions on how to fix.

Join in the discussion by going to: http://irishsetters.ning.com/forum

Also, I noticed some of the groups have discussions going on as well. I will try and remember to report in on them next time.

One called 'Who's the real hunter in the family?:)))' that shows a cat playfully attacking a Setter and getting the best of the dog. The sequel video was Felix and Minci, who look like great play partners. The water video was funny as well.

- Gennadi of Russia shared a video of 'Troy in the field'. Troy was having big fun, let me tell you.

- Paula Rausch of the USA uploaded videos of Hogan and Finnegan and a 'goofing' video. Unfortunately, neither one would play for me. Hopefully, others had better success.

- Lofty of Poland shared two videos, both entitled 'CAC Nowa Ruda'. It was interesting because I had never seen the judges set up in the middle of the ring.

The blogs were active as usual. It's with a sad heart that I share Laura Kolbach's report on the passing of Emese's best (4-legged) friend, 'Dr. Robin'. In reading the comments, it was obvious that Robin was a legendary Setter whose life and lineage has and will continue to touch a lot of lives. Thoughts and prayers from everyone at Exclusively Setters to Emese.

The show scene is busy as ever:

- The Amsterdam show proved to generate several contributions. Harriet of the Netherlands reported in on Reddins Elliot’s performance. She later came back and shared a great looking photo from the show. Laura Kolbach of Hungary followed up posting show results. Yvonne of the Netherlands shared some great show pics of her Irish and Gordons.

Dorothee Durieux of Belgium provided a trip report on the show. Marcella Booij of the Netherlands shared an update on Willow's showing.

- Anne-Marie Hearn of Australia shared a striking photo of Foggy after another BOG showing. She also shared 'Great International news for Pendoric!'

- Cecilia Guiot of France reported on Appleton gaining the first part of agility patent (1st degree).
- Philippe Deram of France shared a super photo of 'Cyrano du Cap de l' Emeraude'.
- Laura Kolbach of Hungary shared a trip report on '01.12.2007 Wels CACIB, Austria, day 1'. Congrats on Danka's great showing!
- Diane Fitzpatrick of Canada reported on 'Am.Ch.Beaubriar Premier Event at The AKC Eukanuba Classic Show'.
- McBIRDY - Jean DUHANT of Belguim (who has an incredibly scenic photo in the header of his profile page) reported in on 'Fletcher of McBirdy: CACS/CACIB - BOB - BIG3 Rouen (F) - Juge: Mr. Riva (F)'.
- Lofty of Poland blogged on 'CAC Nowa Ruda 02-12-2007'

Puppies reports continued to come in:
- Marcella Booij of the Netherlands shared some absolutely adorable pics of Connor's kids.
- Sari of Finland announced that they were expecting puppies this January and uploaded nice pics of the future dad and mom.
- Pauliina Artiola and Vilja Vehkaoja, both from Finland, reported on on their respective 2008 puppy plans and shared some great pics.
- Nenad Mocorka reported in on 9 'New puppies in Red Irish Dream Kennel'.
- Sjoerd Jobse of Sweden announced 'Puppies in 2008 at kennel Caemgen's'.
- Frances McKimm Frances McKimm of Belguim reported in on 'The very first pup for Dreamdance in the Trawricka Kennel, Belgium' and shared an AMAZING photo that you have to check out.

Other posting included:

- Michaela of Germany shared photos of Chili's first contact with snow.

- Henk ten Klooster of the Netherlands??? shared a story entitled 'Mother learns young Bram trialling' and shared a great pic of a setter retrieving a bird.

- Annie, one of Judi Schuerman of the USA's dogs, shared a welcome post. Roo-Roo Annie! I enjoyed your write-up. Annie then reported in from her new dog house in Idaho. Don't worry Annie, you'll be jumping up in that chair in no time! Annie also reported on her first visit to her trainer. I am sure she will have her trainer trained in no time. And I love the '100 people in 100 days' idea for socialization purposes.

This is the second update with no reports from the hunting scene. I guess they are all out in the woods!!! While I am about 4,000 photos behind, I did notice one from Katariina Roiha of Finland entitled 'our pack of Setters' that I enjoyed looking at. I saw in looking at the Google Maps locator that Katariina and her clan live at the very top of Finland. They are now experiencing the Polar nights and it appears to be quite cold. I get a kick out of the dog owners where I live here in Dallas who put sweaters or coats on their little dogs when it is 50 degrees Farenheit (10 degrees Celsius). I would bet it would humor Katariina even more so.

This may be the last update this year. I was going to dig up how to say 'Merry Christmas!' in a bunch of language translations but I thought we could do this on a discussion thread I am getting ready to start.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!!!
