Can any tell me the process one has to go through to bring their dogs over with them from the US. I would like to take a trip to the UK to hunt your upland birds. I would like to bring my setters with me.

Hello Jim

Before embarking on preparing your dogs to travel to the UK, check with the airlines on the cost of transporting them, it is horrendously expensive, a ticket for each dog will be more than it is for a person!

From the time you start the process you need to allow at least 7 months before travel, to ensure you have obtained the paperwork necessary to bring your dogs to the UK without having to go into quarantine. This means if you start now your dogs will be able to travel to the UK in November. The process isn't complicated or expensive, it's just the time factor that may be the problem for your visit this year. Provided you maintain the Rabies imunisation you can bring your dogs whenever you want, you don't have to repeat the process in future years.

If you want to compete at field trials you have to obtain an ATC (Authority to Compete), to register your dogs with the UK Kennel Club http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk , but if you just want to take your dogs on shoots, this is not necessary.
