One now: Glenvarna Fire And Ice At Hooley (Mulligan)
How long have you owned Irish Setters?
37 years
About Me:
My first dog was a much loved Corgi called Bryn.
My previous Irish were:
Kerrigan Amber Dream (Oliver)
Twoacres Joker The Hooley (Flynn)
Twoacres Fergus (Fergus)
Cymbeline Fallon By Hooley (Geordie)
I taught 4 -7 year olds for 17 years and often used to take my first Irish Setter into school. He loved being with the children and they loved being with him. The favourite place to be at story time was next to Oliver!! He was affectionately known as Ollie and many generations of children grew up thinking of Irish Setters as Ollie dogs!!
I got into showing when I retired. Oliver died suddenly only two months after I stopped teaching and as the house was so empty I just knew that I had to have another Irish. I was lucky enough to get a puppy from the late Mrs June Coates (Twoacres). He was Twoacres Joker The Hooley, (Flynn). We went on a steep learning curve together as we found our way around the show world. I very quickly became hooked on this new past time and an obsession began. Over the years I have learnt so much and met so many wonderful friends, all through a shared interest and love of this magnificent breed.
I am on the B Judging list for Irish Setters in the UK and have also judged English Setters, Gordon Setters and Irish Red & White Setters at Open Show level. I was secretary of the East Midlands Social Region of the ISBC in the UK for 14 years and a committee member for 18 years.
As well as showing when possible, I like writing, so often contribute items to the ISBC Newsletter. I also have a particular interest in health matters concerning the breed.
Thankyou Michelle.. I agree - he is a lovely boy.... But mostly because he's nice on the INSIDE! He actually has an English streak in his pedigree .. Sh Ch Thendara Okay Yaa is there on his father's side. Bascially he is a mix of American and English lines. I have his extended pedigree on my website (www.irishsettersaustralia.com) if you would be interested to check it out. cheers, gail
Well that's a good question..... They are probably in the spare room in amongst 2 million tons of other things that I'm not sure where they are either.....
Thanks for the welcome Michelle. I too was a teacher, first secondary then nursery and primary. I am looking forward to following the escapades of the various setters on this site and hope to add some of my own. Cheers Anne
I had a shock again yesterday, bringing Jas into the hall, she wouldn't go in without a bit of help...the strange thing is that it is actually quite light in there, but when she got in, she really excelled herself, she went well for me, mind you I can hardly walk today my knees are killing me, I don't do run... but yes it was a good day, it's such a sham that all the veterans couldn't win... they were all nice.. I just love the oldies....
Thanks for your congratulations Dee and the girls..
Thanks for the invite Michelle, am looking forward to see whats happening in the world of setters.
I dont think Pauline has an email address, but will try and find out.

Hi Michelle, finally got around to joining you and everyone else on this wonderful site.
It is lovely to see all these lovely animals. I know I have just got a Cocker but my old lad will always be in my heart. I see him in nearly every Setter I see, and I wouldn't want it any other way. Thanks for the invite Michelle.
Hi Michelle,
Lovely to hear from you and I'm glad you like the pics. I was intrigued to hear of your website and just had a look. Wow! It really is impressive and must have been loads of work. I often check on to exclusively setters while my baths running. I get caught up in the forums or looking at everyone's lovely dogs and the water gets cold. Very bad for the environment and my kerosene bill, but quite addictive - now I'll have your site as well. Thank you again. Best wishes. Ruth.
Hi Michelle,
I don't know if you got my last comment because replies were moderated to your page. Anyway, if you didn't, I love your website (just had my first look at it). I saw Maeve listed with Hilda's Drumwhaur litters. I'm glad you like my pics. I've bookmarked your site and I'll enjoy exploring it. Kind regards,
Ruth.

Thank you for inviting me to join the site, I have just been looking at the wonderful pics of your dogs with a mixture of tears and smiles. A lot of their poses reminded me so much of my own dear Ginny who I miss so much. I will get some photos of her on the site soon.

Yes - I just couldn't resist! I do't have that many more photos, but oddly enough one of Rory looking at a Christmas present among wrapping paper, rahter like yours!
Hi Michelle, thanks for your welcome to exclusively setters. I'll put some pictures of my setters (past and present) on soon, with the help of my computer literate children!
Hi Michelle, I was checking out your website and had to drop by & let you know how much I enjoyed it, especially you stories. I bet you miss Fergus so much :( That's when I noticed you live in Cleethorpes. I was born there! I live in Australia now, we emigrated when I was 5 (along time ago!) I have only met one other person who came from there, let alone know where it is! So Gidday from Down Under J x
Hello Michelle,
Very glad that you want to add my girls at your site. It is great idea with making a base with all dogs and pedigrees.
Will send you all information you need about my girls on mail.
Regards,
Marta
Hi Michelle, Burnett is my surname, my parents are both from Grimsby. Mums maiden name is Knight. We lived in Anne Grove in Cleethorpes. We then moved to Ealing ? (I think it was called) and then came to Australia. Mum & Dad have been back a few times and we still have relatives there. It sure is a small world, I bet your parents loved the weather here when they came to visit.
Hi Michelle, thankyou for your welcome to the site.It seems already that hours are spent keeping on top of all the news and items, should be quite absorbing.
Best regards
JIM C
Hi Michelle
Many thanks for the welcome. As soon as I get used to been on the site and have worked out what size pic's I can post I will upload a few. After 30 odd years of living with Irish I seem to have amassed a few. None from the ring or breeding as they are our family and we know they are the best!
Thanks Michelle. Good to know there are so many people out there I can get friendly advice from. The picture is actually of our first Setter, Poppy. She was incredibly sweet and a real character. She'd have done anything my husband asked but whenever she saw him packing for a business trip, she got a glint in her eye, like a naughty child and I knew I was in for trouble. Sadly Poppy passed away, aged just 8 from a splenic tumour and we were devastated. Bailey is proving to be a real handful in comparison to Poppy but usually he gets that goofy look on his face and we can't be mad at him. Any advice on owning a male Setter is gratefully received.
Oh yes I am am enjoying The site very very much. I loved reading about Ollie being with kids at school when you were teaching. My last 3 Setters have enjoyed visiting seniors in retirement homes. At Christmas we go caroling. This picture has my dear Tucker with us. He could walk but would tire so loved to ride in his ride wagon. Jo Ann
Glad you enjoyed picture of the 3 of us Caroling. Well time for breakfast for all of us. I say all, because we have a guest dog staying with us while family away. Sadly not a Irish setter. I think I am the only Irish Setter person in Southern Marin County as I have never seen one. Tho lots people ta come up to talk to us tell stories of when they had one in their lives. Jo Ann
