How many Irish Setters do you have?
One
How long have you owned Irish Setters?
I have been owned by Irish Setter's since 1973
About Me:
We got our first Irish Setter, Shilo, back in 1973 ...knowing nothing of the breed but soon fell in love with our boy...and since then we have had 5 more males....we lost our last old gentleman Irish in 2008 and our inherited rescue Brittany a month later and husband said NO MORE DOGS !! Well , in June of 2009 I talked him into letting me rescue an itsy, bitsy dog but the more I looked the more I knew my heart was truly with my Irish Setters....then one night watching the Cardinal's Baseball game ....they had the Purina Pro Dog of the week looking for a home....a young female Irish Setter named Heidi ( on You Tube under Heidi the Irish Setter) and to make a long story short ....Heidi has become our Miss Molly ! Wee bit wild at first but was out of crate even when we were not home within 3 months, Miss Molly has just been an awesome Irish for us....have ran out of tricks to teach her....and she sure changed my mind about insisting on always having a male dog! I had always gotten Irish puppies around 12 weeks old before but after being owned by Miss Molly ....I would search for a rescue dog as she has just been so easy to train and fit into our lives. The only thing I wish we did know was what her pedigree was . I still miss my boys but Miss Molly sure healed a lot of aching hearts in our home.

you make me laugh which is good. Yes I have taken pictures etc and will find out much the cover is and send him the account with notice to pay. He should have insurance. I would like to go on a holiday and do nothing but not to be yet. Molly was trying to help the plumber so I had to put her on a lead and walk around with her. I will go down the shop now and take her for a drive. That little visit from the plumber cost over $400. Hope you get to go to the lake sounds lovely what about poor Molly would she go to the kennels?
  • Eunice Marott

hope u are all tucked up in bed as I write this. Next door should finish knocking down this week and then 3 months at least for rebuild. Nice to live somewhere first before making up your mind to move. At the moment I just wish things would improve. Molly certainly has been unsettled during this time and back and forth with the kennels makes her restless.
  • Eunice Marott

demolishion derby have finished. I took Molly for a long drive to get some peace this morning. They have been arriving at 7am and leaving at 3pm. Anyway gone now. The building will not be so bad. It was a big house and took a lot to knock it down. Molly will have a peaceful afternoon now. Thats a pain you were called into work. And the weather hard to believe. Still reasonable hot here. It was really hot when I was in Alice.
  • Eunice Marott

you have had your fair share also. I cannot understand their thinking sometimes when they repair drains etc. Molly is alseep on the lounge and was looking out the window. The main guy has just left in his car which he parked across the road. Molly starts to growl so I look and there he is getting into his car. Quite a distance for her to be growling about something. Her eyes may need some attention not too bad today but yesterday I swiped some stuff away. Only 1 week and I am back in Alice. Neil has not been since Xmas. Molly is alseep and barking in her sleep must be dreaming. Does your Molly snore and bark in her sleep?
  • Eunice Marott

i think my son has a few days off so he may drive us out into the country. If you can imagine there is the town of about 30,000 people then red rocks and dirt and beautiful water holes, mountains, creeks and a very green desert which is very unusual. I remember years ago we went there and came back with everything red now all green because of the high amount of rain they have had. Hopefully we will get to go out. Their friends are going away so we are going to stay at their house while we are in Alice. Save on hotel costs.
  • Eunice Marott

hang on I am getting a coffee and I will answer all your questions or you may be in bed by now
  • Eunice Marott

i am putting three photos on Molly photo page
  • Eunice Marott

we have 4 terms per year. Xmas/Jan is the big summer one 6 weeks. It depends on the state which is a pain because sometimes it is hard to sort when going from state to state. The kids will be home when we are there. I asked the oldest at Xmas and she said come when they are home. When we go I will take some more photos. I quickly uploaded these two of Stanley Chasm which is a must to see when in the NT.

Just down the road about 6 hours is the famous Ayers Rock.

  • Eunice Marott

different countrys are all the same and different. Just watching Elizabeth Taylor died. Glad you like the photos I sent you another one directly to you.
  • Eunice Marott

when you have some digital photos you can send me some from your end of the world. The NT has Alice Springs and then at the top end Darwin which has many waterfalls, water holes and very hot humid. BUT crocs that eat you and other interesting things but really beautiful. Good time to visit is in our winter temps around 32 degrees while in Sydney at time temps 16 degrees.
  • Eunice Marott

i was much the same as you I also grew up in the city (Sydney). We had dog, cat and chickens. Not now chickens are not allowed to be kept in the suburbs. Pretty much the normal family growing up in the city. Did you move to where you are later after you got married. I was looking at your photos of your Molly she has a really sweet face.
  • Eunice Marott

thats interesting. Where I grew up was a surburb closer to the city than where we are now. Now it is full of other nationalties. Careful no racisim from me. I guess we all get older something we cannot stop. We had market gardens where I grew up. Molly is licking me something that is not my favourite thing. They can keep chickens in their backyards in Alice as where we are staying have some. We have a state election on Saturday joy of joys.
  • Eunice Marott

our Mollys do look alike but I think yours has more interest in things. Well the vet.. Molly has not had any problems because she is used to going there waiting for the van to collect her to take her to the kennels. She is due for all her bits and p;ieces in May. She certainly is not over weight if anything a bit lean I would think. Your Molly has been through different circumstances to ours i.e the vets I mean before you took her. Thank goodness you have her now and she is loved so much and has a great home. Sleep tight and hopefully a rest tomorrow!!
  • Eunice Marott

we have elections every 4 years. big event usually. State election which this is or federal election you would know our prime minister Julia Gillard she just had a visit to the US. Prime Minister is the federal election. There is an interesting thing going on here regarding having dogs on beaches which at the moment comes with a heavy fine. There was a discussion earlier where some did not believe me that is was like that in Sydney well this confirms our issue of no dogs on beaches. Anyway I will leave that alone but it would be good if they finally do allow it at certain times and designated beaches. Talk soon
  • Robin Calderon

No one has yet come forward for this dog! I have check daily with the pound and all the other vets in town. I have been to the truck stops to see if perhaps he got away from a traveler. The ad has run in the paper for over a week. Spring break is over so families that went out of town for that are back. I have come to the conclusion that this sweet guy was dumped. The only fault I have seen so far is that he pulls REALLY hard on a long leash. If you keep him close in a heel position he does great, but let to move to the end of the leash he will pull.

So now I am seriously looking for a home for this dog. I cannot take him as I already have three dogs, including one very dog-aggressive border collie, in this tiny house. Two adults, two teenage girls, two large dogs and one small dog in a two bedroom, one bath home is not comfortable. LOL!

  • Eunice Marott

hope you had a relaxing day. Molly stayed inside while I was in the city for over 6 hours and no problems. I am so happy got the all clear from doc
  • Eunice Marott

i could not stand that sort of weather. How far do you have to drive to work in those conditions? Your Molly is quite the bit of fun. Ours when inside as she prefers just sits on the lounge and watches the world go buy. I am downloading some photos to put on ebay so could put some more of Molly on. getting cooler here now...
  • Eunice Marott

I am putting some of late mothers china on EBAY. It has been the cupboards here for ages and just takes up room. I would like that sort of weather it is raining and windy here today.
  • Eunice Marott

MY username is Eunicejasper. I haven't put them on yet but they should be under cat... china.
  • Eunice Marott

i did exclude overseas so you may not be able to see them. Nothing all that exciting but brings back memories of when I was a child. EBay is o.k. For me a good way of getting rid of stuff. Molly getting ready for her dinner.
  • Eunice Marott

no she hates the rain. Went to vote today and took her in the car. No parking so we had to park a few blocks away. When we were walking down the busy road she was getting spooked and that worried me so Neil went and got the car and I stayed at the shops with her. But I left one of my bags of shopping at the supermarket about $20 worth. Went back but someone had taken them. I thought hope they chock on the almonds. Not nice but nor is taking a bag and not returning them!!
  • Eunice Marott

i have some country roses from my Mum that my daughter in law would like, can't find it so good thing or it could end of Ebay...
  • Eunice Marott

my cousin came for dinner tonight. Molly thought she was great did the greeting thing and head through under her arm at dinner. Just as well she likes dogs. No training today too wet to go. Take care
  • Eunice Marott

The country roses I will keep for awhile until they are settled somewhere and can take it. My mother loved the set. Molly alseep on the lounge while next door are taking down massive trees in the light rain. We have a lot of gums here. Hope your weather improves and you have nice sunny days to look forward to. I will have to take Molly to the vets as her eye is still not quite right. She is off to the kennels again this Thursday and then when she comes home a nice long spell before she needs to go again.
  • Eunice Marott

those photos are really something. Molly seems to be enjoying herself. I can't get over the amount of snow. We would only get that on the alps a long way from herein winter which is the snow season. Your Molly is absolutely beautiful so much fun for her.
  • Eunice Marott

i am not that busy.. that amount of snow is hard to imagine. Raining today which is good because it keeps next door away... Molly does not like the rain. do you have short days with the sun setting quite early in the afternoon. When we were in London a few years ago in December it was dark at 4pm. I will pack our camera to take photos while in Alice as might not get back for awhile.
  • Eunice Marott

i can't imagine your weather. We lived in Canberra ages ago for a few years. It got cold and about 100kms south is the snowy mountains. All we got was frozen pipes and heavy frosts. It must be magic at your place at Xmas. Molly alseep on the lounge.
  • Eunice Marott

i guess it is the same for u to imagine how hot and dry/humid it gets here. Not sure what I will do about the eye problem. Trying to watch costs at the moment. I might alert the kennels and sometimes they don't charge if their vet looks at the animal because they are there every day.
  • Chantal McIlveen-Wright

    Hi Sherry,

Indeed, and very sorry about that, I was not in the right country....  I love snow and playing in the snow with my dogs, so I guess I was already having fun in my fantaisy world.... very sorry about that.
Saying that I really liked and enjoyed your snow pictures and seeing your Molly having so much fun, this brings smiles on my face and happiness in my heart...

Thanks for the pictures Sherry, and sorry for the confusion. Cuddles to Molly   :-)

  • David McIlveen Wright

    Hi Sherry,

I'm not bothered one way or the other about snow myself, but I like to see it (for a while!) because I know the dogs love it! I have photos some where of Darwin doing the same thing as Molly in the snow!

    David

  • Eunice Marott

left home at 10am back at 4.30pm Molly inside and no problem... good girl. She is off to kennels tomorrow
  • Eunice Marott

I get so pleased with Molly when she is inside and is good. Dropped her off this morning about lunchtime here now. She did not even said goodbye just off to the back to wait for the van. Left the two cats with the vets for boarding. Sung to me all the way down 20 minutes. I have asked the kennels to check her eyes. I have the camera ready hope to get some nice photos for you. Raining here but could be sunny over there. Son is coming back for 1 month at Xmas which is great. He should be back for good middle of next year depending on getting an airline job with the larger airlines. Qantas not going so good here laying off people and cutting flights. This they say is because of all the horrible events this year such as the earthquakes. NZ is a big tourist attraction for Australians because it is closer than Perth or Alice.
  • Eunice Marott

got upgrade to business class. I asked the flight attendent do we come close to Lake Eyre as I thought we did. It was when we flew to Alice last year from Adelaide which gave us a better view. Anyway he asked the captain and when we came close announced it. Unfortunately too far away to get a good photo. The flight attendent also told me he had seen the show you both watched and heaps of birds to that every so often. all good here a bit cooler than last time. My son has purchased a pup from the pound which is the same thing as your rescue dog. Pup is all types not sure but quite cute.
  • Myra Thomas-Rhodes

Happy Birthday Sherry.Enjoy your special day!
  • Chantal McIlveen-Wright

A very Happy Birthday Sherry!!!! I am sure Molly will help you with the cake... if allowed. Still having snow?   :-)
  • Michelle Walsh

Thought I had missed it ! ~~HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHERRY~~ hope you have a great day..Best Wishes xx
  • Michelle Walsh

    Red Ribbon
  • Eunice Marott

Have you had a birthday. Hope it was a good day.

The puppy is 3 months old and they have called her Shasa. it is funny how everyone calls her a him. I do it also. Anyway I will send you some pictures and Molly will get to see the new pup at Xmas when they make the huge drive over to Sydney. (over 3 days).

  • Michelle Walsh

Hi Sherry ! on behalf of Legolas...many thanks for the birthday wishes :) Moosing it hahaha if only Sherry :) tragically it's all natural xx
  • Eunice Marott

so glad to have Molly back. She looks so big. Their pup is doing the desexing thing tomorrow. The camels were imported hundreds of years ago from Afghanistan to use to carry stuff around. The Ghan train that now runs from Alice to Darwin was named from that history. Neil told me so I guess it is true. No Australia does not have camels natively but these are certainly here now as you saw. Not used anymore and those are wild. Molly has so much energy now she is home. Running through the house and on the lounge. She was so exciteed to see us more than normal
  • Michelle Walsh

Hi Sherry ! thanks for the comment & the tip on Molly's photos ! :) she looks FAB ! and quite a lot like Lego...in the hair department :) she just needs to grow the mad bits a bit longer, maintain them at 90 degree angle all day:) and develop them all over her body :)...then they could be related hahaha! I totally agree, we love them they way they are...crazy hair and all. Does Molly enjoy grooming? lego hates getting brushed and straight after I brush him, he shakes like a wet dog and Poof...back to crazy hair all over...it's a battle I'll never win. But he wouldn't be lego without his 'hair', it's just that he's soooo different to Theoden,it always makes me laugh...like 'Lady & the Tramp' ! xx
  • Michelle Walsh

Hi Sherry ! Personality top knot ! :) I love it ! at least she enjoys her showers...that's something. The boys aren't that bothered by showers either & actually like the hair-drier, infact Theoden loves it :) I've never had the lads at a groomers, I know for sure Lego would hate it. As you know i don't show him so I don't think it's worth putting him through, the odd shower & brush seems to do him just fine...if I thought he'd enjoy it, I might think differently. Theoden just shows at local & county shows, nothing too fancy plus he's more working type and seems to have done fine so far with his own natural look.

Oh Sherry I totally understand about dragging stuff into the house...you shoud see my two after our trips to the forest...they drag half of it back with them...branches, bracken & all sorts in the coats & tails. I hate it when briars get caught in the tail feathering, the thorns are lethal when trying to yank them out !

Hugs ~ Michelle & the lads

  • Michelle Walsh

Hi Sherry ! I'm sure miss Molly will be the perfect ambassdor for the IS breed...hope you have a great lunch :) I'm not overly familiar with the Irish Setter dog scene in the U.S, do you know why the breed had a bad name for a while? was it temperment or physical issues?

I guess Alan has become a human hair drier :)...the price he pays for 'stealing' your Molly :)  I only got into showing (at a basic level) when I moved to Wexford nearly 4 years ago. It was a way of driving around the county & surrounding areas, getting to know the place and to meet new people, so far he's done pretty well & we have a bit of fun :)

Bye for now ~ Michelle & the lads xx

  • Eunice Marott

glad to be home and Molly seems so big compared to their pup. Your Molly sounds just a delight. When are you getting the new fence? We still have not had our insurance claim fixed after the water damage. Molly does not have any other dogs to play with just meets them when she goes for a walk down to the shops. Weather still warm here but starting to cool. I think the weather pattern all over the world is changing. I saw the discussion on ticks on the site. We have the deadly ones here and most of the year. How do you go with them? xxx to Molly
  • Eunice Marott

we have lyme disease also. I can't use the Advantax because of the cats. It is deadly. I hate fleas and ticks. Molly has had a really bad flea thing happening over the last few months. The guy who damaged our heater said too bad and Neil said about them fixing it and he said he would just hamer it out. Neil said no fix correctly. I went out and when I came back he had been in and done just what he said he would do. Too upsetting so I left it. Yesterday the plumers were there with their loud music and I contacted the certifier of the building. We now are enjoying peace today. Neil home sick which does not help. Molly alseep on the lounge where she spends most of her time!!
  • Eunice Marott

Molly is a IS with a great personalty like most of them. They would not hurt anything and don't like it when other dogs carry on growling and fighting. our Molly will chase the odd bird but doesn't like fighting with others. Hope you get your fence sorted
  • Eunice Marott

i have not heard of the tick treatment you have mentioned. I would be too worried about using anything other than Frontline because of the huge problem we have. We use it throughout the year unfortunately.
  • Eunice Marott

that would be so nice. Happy campers!!
  • Eunice Marott

nothing worse than wet muddy dogs... are your ticks deadly?
  • Eunice Marott

Molly was sick through the night. Seems o.k. now. Also chased a possum away from her food earlier in the night and nearly went through the glass on the back door. Very nosy today must be the cooler weather.
