Two again. Darwin (17/10/2004) and Mac (born 1/6/11).
How long have you owned Irish Setters?
Since 1996
About Me:
My love story with Irish setters started in 1996 with the most wonderful IS ever - MC, a field trial with Monroad ancestors. I was so lucky to have this very special and clever boy!!! Unfortunately, I lost him in May 2010, a couple of days short before his 14th birthday.
In between, in January 2005 came very handsome Darwin, the sweetest nature possible, Irish born with Thendara gd-parents. Recently we had a new addition to the family, Mac (the holy terror), born the 1/6/2011 from Sumaric Mr. Jingles and Thendara Vanilla Ice.
Hi Chantal
the photo of Elton with the shiny coat was taken a couple of weeks after a show so we are very pleased to see the shine remain. I can tell you the secret,(make sure no one is watching) all I do just before a show is, he gets a hydrobath with a shampoo and a conditioner with an ingredient called (sshh tell no one) neem oil he then gets blown and brushed dry and a light spray of a leave in conditoner and a satin coat put on, this brings his coat up absolutely glowing.
He gets fed fresh chicken mince with dry dog biscuits (please delete this evidence)
cheers Peter
Thank you very much for your nice comments on my photos:) Greta started to swim when she was 7 months old. She loved it from the very beginning. Love to watch her in a water she is amazing! Wish I could swim as good as she:)
Hi Chantal ! How are you ? all well I hope & Darwin in good spirits ? Many thanks as always for your lovely comments on Lego's photos ! That crazy hair of his always cheers me up :)
What a happy message! The 'wee Irish' is already there, as just like O'Bama, my ancewstor John left Cork in 1849 for Birmingham. He was not a farmer, but a carpenter; but there was no work for any of them. So a new branch of the family grew up in the Black Country, Walsall and district, and they were all there when I was a boy. Now the survivors are scattered, and we, especially Susan, are keeping up the Irish in Switzerland. It's very green here too. I was in Cork some years ago with my late wife. Best regards
Hi Chantal ! seeing Lego's hair in it's full 3-d glory evryday always makes me smile, it's only fair to share the fun :) He's actually doing really well Chantal, the injection into the joint has worked brilliantly so far & he's flying around the place lke a puppy :) I only hopes it lasts a good while for him before he has to go back to Cork for surgery.
I'm almost afraid to ask but has Darwin been unwell or something? only when you mentioned his condition, it sounded like he'd been poorly & I don't remember you saying anything about it..if you did & i've forgotten ...so sorry !
Many congrats on your impending new arrival !! YAY!! i'm assuming another setter? when do you think you'll have him? any names picked? believe it or not i have my own little bundle of red joy coming very soon too :) we'll have to swap puppy pics.
~Take care & good luck with your new addition to the family xx
HI Chantal, thanks for the comments on the photos, most of them are getting old now so I should put some new ones on but where does the time go? These setters are very photogenic and Bella has definitely learned that it is in her best interests to pose for the camera! How is the lovely Darwin doing, is he continuing to do better? and what is this I read of a new pup?
Thank you Chantal. Yes my red fellow Guinness had also a lovely day. Especially when the grandchildren came and spoilt him to drop sometimes a little piece of cake for him!
Hi Chantal, Did you lose your MC in this May? Iam so sorry for the both of you but indeed a pup will bring you joy and happiness and it will ease the pain. We had in 33 years 4 red ones and our Guinness is 10 now. My husband is now 61 years old and we think Guinness will be the last. If Bert can live without his red setter.
Thank you for your email. It was lovely to hear from you. I agree with you you will never forget your setters. Every setter has (how is it possible) his own carracter but the base always stays: gentel, loving, funny and once you had a setter you will always be mad on them!!!! We took a setter in the 70 because they are very friendly to children and now we have grandchildren it is still that way. If you see how fond he is of ours and when I say to him: the little ones are just coming, he is very allert and excited. When our Dunquin died two years ago (we had to take him to the vet because it was awfull to see him that way) Suze our granddaughter, she was then 4 years old, and I, we did give him together his last meal. The little girl she was very sad. I told her, Dunquin is not away, he stays for ever in your heart and always will be with you. I hope when she is an adult, she will prever a RED IRISH SETTER.
Ver exciting to have a puppy within a month. I am very curious.
Have a nice evening, with kind regards from Holland Bert and Marion and Guinness
Hi Chantal, thank you for welcoming. I just found ES few days ago, they are brilliant. We are so excited to get a puppy - my three years old son wants to teach her to speak :), but we must wait until the end of July because we are going to visit our family in Czech. I will see Monty after 6 months.I'm wondering how he looks now... actually how much grey he is.
Thanks for welcoming me to ES. We're going to choose Murfee on Saturday - can't wait he'll be 3 weeks old and we have a choice of 3 puppies. Personally I'd like to take the lot!! It's been over 7 years since we lost our beautiful Paddy to cancer - he was only nine. I'll take some photos of the puppies and send them to you.
Thank you for your comment, Chantal. Interesting to hear you started with one of the Moanruad dogs. - is that the courageous one planning to leap from the window? I'd better not tell the puppy buyers about that...;-))
Hi, Chantal, I did post Sir Winston's (Winnie to his friends) photos on my new page. Please bare with me, I'm not computer savvy. The picturesnof my baby are some of the photo's in his new book. Winnie had a story to tell. You know how setters always have something to say. I miss him sooo. I never realized h
Thank you Chantal. I love your site. To me there is no one more elegant than our Setters. When you walk w/ a setter You even feel elegant even if you are wearing jeans and no make-up. I always told my husband:"Winnie has your nose but his Mom's(me) eyes"..
Thank you for the advise. My husband and I keep reminding ourselves, how great of a puppy she really is. Took no time to house train her , really only a few days . She doesnt chew on anything thats not her ( besides the occasional teddy bear , she steals from Skylers room), and she sleeps all night now outside of the kennel ! Ive had dogs my whole life growing up and she is the first to learn so quickly . I think its the pregnancy moodiness and restlessness that makes the barking 10x worse for me !! LOL. I guess just like a child if you want a well behaved dog , it takes a lot of work and consistency. My worries come from being a first time mom ( Skyler is my step daughter) and having a puppy all at once, the fear of the unknown . But I know she is a fast learner and will pick up it up in no time . thanks again :)
Thank you for the lovely comment on Fin's fabulous (to me) win....Will you be going to Antrim next weekend??? for the Belfast Ch Show...maybe see you there....First trip to Ireland in a year...I miss my trips there...
Hi there Chantal
I will look forward to seeing you on Saturday....hope that your husband has a good trip to Germany...
Jasmin will be at the show....she is entered but not sure if I will be showing either of my girls...Jas with all her problems...and Saffy is now having a bit of a phantom, so she is in 'feed the multitude' mode...she is hanging down like Jersey cow underneath...poor wee confused sole...But I will be showing Fin in a couple of classes...don't usually show him in more than one class, ah well fingers crossed...back to earth with a bump...All the best Dee and the gang
HI Chantal, My girl's name is Freya. She is 8 months old now. A relative had a setter about 25 yrs ago named Freya,( they were very into viking history) anyway she died and I never forgot her or that name. I am working on getting pictures. I have been watching this site for a couple of years. Love the stories etc. Have a great day. Nancy
Good Morning Chantal, Yes, I knew her name meant goddess of love and beauty. From Norse mythology. However that is interesting to learn the German spelling etc. When I read that message from Love nelly, I knew it was not right. I have ignored it. I noticed she sent exact message to other people. Thanks for telling me about Gene. Will check his page.Take care, Nancy
THANK YOU!!!!!!!! Yes he made my birthday special,he does everyday of my life special, yesterday my AC broke, and with 95 degree was terrible,so my kids, Aghy and me we all slept in the living room with 2 fans, we had a great time in spite of the heat.
thank you for your comments on my pics! I am the proud owner of Pallas Green Kells. Not a pup from Henk but his youngest bitch. She is very special to me!
It was a great day for Sean and his owners also for me as my boy Drifter was his father as was he father to my Abbi (Seans half sister)...who got the RCC .a day to remember
