About Me:
first IS Sharla died at 15 years. second IS Cherie died Feb 2010 to cancer. Very sad. I was not going to get another IS but saw an add in the paper for pups and could not resist. We bought our Molly down from Queensland by plane. It is 1 year yesterday that she arrived and looked so cute in her crate at the airport. The staff were great and Molly travelled to our home some 45 kms from the airport without any problems. Called in at the vet on the way home to show the new pup off and together with the vet nurse named her Molly. She has become a huge part of our lives.

Now you need a picture of you dancing in those feathers at Rocky Horror show to frame next to Baby Molly's boa picture for Neil....his two favorite females!
  • Sherry Miller

Sounds like she does not like her space invaded...sometimes I think people don't think....I try to stay ahead of people and introduce Molly to them and give her time to warm up to them.  Molly does let us know if someone is around out in front (and back) at night...gives her come look  bark! but settles down once we tell her it is alright.  I did have her in the car when we ordered some roast beef sandwiches to bring home one day at the drive thru window....she loved poking her nose out when I went to pay for the sandwiches...and rode rest of the way home sniffing the air smelling those sandwiches.  Molly is just so nosey that she could see and hear them using the slicer on the roast...fascinated her but think it was the odors that really got her attention...perhaps her idea of heaven?
  • Sherry Miller

Our Molly does not ride with head out the window either....just has to pop it out when we stop at a drive thru as she is soooo nosey,  I do not think she would like Joy's glasses....would drive herself crazy trying to get them off I fear.  Even a bow added to her collar bothers her it seems...but she did wear that pearl necklace for Halloween and seemed to like that .Worked today and then had dinner with old friends....nice evening.  Off tomorrow and then start a wild work week....wearing my bad knee out so will see how this goes.
  • Sherry Miller

Sounds like Baby Molly is perking up ...weather cooler there?  does the cat tease her to be chased? and does the cat have a spot to go to where she can get away from Molly?

Our Molly is cuddled up on the sofa here....spent most of the day outside while Alan mowed lawn....and over my ornamental grasses...when I got home from work Miss Smarty Pants here had to get me to go out with her...and ran to where my grasses were...and back to me twice til I followed her over to look at what is left.  Alan says she is a tattle tale...lol.  Grasses will grow back but Molly will miss them til they do as she sometimes decides to lie in middle of one of them...and alo hunts her bunnies in them.

Uhoh on dangerous snakes that close !  would worry me as I know my IS would have been curious to see what that thing wiggling is!  Had one IS that kept teasing a black snake down at my Dad's ...Alan laughing like crazy as each time snake tried to leave Shannon would hit it's tail with his paw  so snake would coil up and then try to strike...dog dancing out of striking range and just waiting for that snake to leave again so he could hit the tail and make it coil again...I finally went out to see what all the guys were laughing about and just about blew my cool when I saw Shannon playing with that snake.  Just am not a snake fan here...or mice either....light rain here this pm....my one road on way to work unflooded finally and will see how close my main route is to being clear again.  I miss my backroad route as other ways take me fifteen minutes longer!  Molly always wants to play when we come home....and usually while we are gone she just sleeps waiting for us to come home....has figured out chair right by the door is the best spot to wait for us as that way she can greet us faster.  Funny how fast they figure us out and how hard we try to figure them out!
  • Sherry Miller

Most snakes we get right here where we live are the garden variety...garter or black snakes ....out in the country you will find poisonous ones like copperheads, some timber rattlesnakes and water moccassains.  I like my bunnies, squirrels and my Cardinals, robins and wrens in my yard but not any creepy slimely reptiles or little creepy animals like mice!  Molly I think loves chasing her bunnies and squirrels out of our yard...and you know how she is about her birds.  Just sent you an email about what we are hearing here.
  • Sherry Miller

Have not been to Canada...anything special your reading?  We have talked of taking trip to VanCouver and then to Alaska with his sister in future.

We had a few May Day parades here...but not many.  We used to have special May DAy celebrations when I was a kid.  We all would take flowers from our yards to school and brb

  • Sherry Miller

May Day as a kid we took those flowers and made and decorated paper cones ..lace, cutouts, and then picked from those big pots of flowers we all brought to school to fill those cones...when we went home we were supposed to hang the cone of flowers on the door knob and ring the bell and run away....could be your own home, neighbor or someone who just needed a special surprise where you left the flowers.  Sometimes we had the May Pole ...pole wih long ribbons and the girls would hold those ribbons and dance around the pole. Some schools would crown a May Day queen.  Those things seem to be things of the past here....no more special May Day flowers but I wish they would do it again to encourage the little ones to think of others who might need a smile added to their day.

Why do you have to go by 2013?  we just started talking of taking that trip this past month....will be talking to her next month to try to figure out when we all can work out our trip.

Hi Eunice...Molly  has had an interesting day...couple down the street were sure she was a show dog...insisting she should be...and Molly putting on quite the show for them...still thinks everyone should make over her and if they do she knows how to keep the compliments coming it seems...she stood (stacked) like she was being judged, than sat and offered her paw to them..all the time I am trying to not laugh!  then off we go around the block..on next block she is attacked from behind by a basset hound ..Molly wee bit of a panic ...tries on lead to avoid the barking dog who keeps coming  up behind her....they could not call their dog or grab it so I kept trying to go forward with Molly but then Chewey would get in her face and bark at her...think if I had let her off lead they might have played but not taking any chances either so kept trying to walk away from silly dog...Molly I could tell was wanting away from it also...she is not one to bark much nor have other dogs in her face especially when they are barking.  Finally they got the dog corralled and we continued our walk...another stop for her to show off to a neighbor while I chatted with them...but can tell Molly is disappointed as they did not make over her or pet her so she is soon ready to walk again.  Home I let her off lead so she can run around the front yard for a bit....she has to be sure she has all the critters off her yard it seems...then back inside she goes.  I had tried to not take her for that walk but she can be quite insistant when she wants something...putting toys in your lap, running to front door and giving her let's go woof....tugging on her leash to get it to come off the table....acting like she has to go out but when you open the back door she backs up and runs to the front door....I finally give in and let her have her promenade....we do not dare say the word walk here as then you will never get out of not taking her for one!

How are you all doing today?

  • Sherry Miller

Molly did fine and is sleeping in her chair by the front door.  I was thinking of throwing my shoe at Chewey if he tried to grab Molly....Alan was pretty upset that someone dared to bark at his baby.  Did not ask if I was alright but had to  be sure Chewey did not bite his baby .  lol  Now wants me to find a new route to take her for her mini evening walk.

What type of  camera did you finally get?  I am still trying  to figure mine out here but it basically is a point and shoot.

  • Sherry Miller

Chewey usually is always outside barking from his backyard at us while we walk...Molly ignores him as she does most dogs while we are walking.  She is on a mission when walking....think it is to see what is around next corner!  or perhaps it is to find the leprechaun with his pot of gold?  It is getting down to freezing here again tonight...not sure if mini winter is ever going to leave!  Keep putting heavy coats away to just have to get them out again,

  • Sherry Miller

should be spring now...this is just a late freeze for us ...but I never plant any outdoor flowers until Mothers Day as have seen this happen all too often.  Do you all celebrate Mothers Day this Sunday?
  • Sherry Miller

that sounds like fun.  We will probably do brunch.....mimosa's for MOM...and then home to walk Molly if weather is nice.  More rain in forecast for Thursday, and Saturday so ground here will still be wet.  Normally Alan plants small garden out in front for a flower surprise for me that morning....seems to change flowers most years so always look forward to seeing what this year's special flower is.

  • Sherry Miller

She is speaking to you...telling you to pay attention to her.  Ours air barks (no sound but you will hear her teeth chop together) when she wants to go out in backyard....Alan swears she is saying open door servants as she often does it three times in a row.  Only time we hear her chop barks here. lol

  • Sherry Miller

Not sure if Molly would back down another dog or not....she might be the one to play with another dog or escape if she felt threatened.  She normally loves to play with other dogs but this time he came after her which scared her I think.  Will see what happens and keep close tabs on what Chewey is doing when I walk her .  Hate to change my whole walking pattern cause of a dog....I was here longgggggggg before that other dog was.  lol
  • Sherry Miller

ahhh poor Baby Molly...wonder if the cat is feeling his oats also due to change in weather? or is Molly secretly teasing the cat? or just her being more active may have the cat upset as Molly is not in the usual routine?  love that she is playing with her toys more now.  I love to watch Molly play with hers...and even funnier to watch her dig around til she finds the exact one that is the plaything of the moment.  Night and hugs to little scratched nosed Molly.
  • Sherry Miller

Hi Eunice...think work is going to wear me out yet! Day off today and called in for four hours...and so it goes.  Molly upset as I was gone so much lately....letting me know it with her pouting and clinging...she knows just how to hoist her fanny up on the sofa so I can not watch tv and have to pay attention to her.  Hope you all are doing good and that Samson is allowing Baby Molly a wee bit more freedom in the house.
  • Sherry Miller

Hope Molly is alright.  Has she perked back up? eating? drinking?

Part of my job is filling in when needed ...and will miss that time in June so guess I can say I am earning my time off?

  • Sherry Miller

Molly here will unstuff some toys but then will carry the outside of the toy around swinging it...what we call her roadkill here.  Sometimes I swear those are her favorites!  She unsuffed the tummy of the LambChop she got for Easter but that is the toy she greets us with all the time..and one she had in her mouth with the big stuffed ball in that picture.  I think I need to try to find another Lamb Chop for future for her as it is a favorite,  Hard to know what they will tear up and what they won't and I know our Molly lovesssss to shop herself for new toys!.....last summer's bargain she found for $3 is still around ....just a fleece long piece like a smaller dog would play tug with but she loves to toss it around herself or to have us toss it inside for her to fetch.
  • Sherry Miller

Perhaps Samson is feeling invaded?  Molly more active and assertive this year ...and now this rare grey cat invading his territory?  Betcha that Molly and Samson will settle their battles soon in a truce.
  • KC and the boys

Thanks for the friend request. It's good to know I can make people laugh! Your Molly sounds like a right little rascal. She and Errol would make perfect partners in crime (but I dare say we'll ever make it to NSW)!

Hi Eunice ! many thanks for your comment on Lego's photo, I'm glad you think he's cute...looking that hair in 3-d everyday is hilarious :)
  • Michelle Walsh

Hi Eunice ! Isn't it funny how setters differ :) My lads consider cats the enemy & wouldn't think twice about 'hunting' them, my neighbours cat wanders past the back field & drives them crazy :) no way they'd cohabitate like your lovley family ! And as for toys...oh dear, anything fluffy or with  squeeky inside must be terminated a.s.a.p :) both boys are from serious working strains...everything is  potential prey & all they think about is hunting :) My old boy Connor was so different, cherished his teddies & loved to groom them, especially their ears :)
  • Michelle Walsh

Hi Eunice ! Oww I know exactly how you feel, I went through that last year , a new dormer bungalow was built on a site beside me...so, so many saturday mornings ruined with the glorious sound of diggers, cememt mixers, hammering etc. etc. I was so happy when it was all over. I like my saturday lie-in :)

Hope things get sorted soon & it's built quickly. I think all setters can be a bit devilish at times, my lads got another bird in the garden this morning, there's just no getting away from that hunting instinct.

    Bye for now ~Take care

    Hi Eunice,

sounds like Molly might be a '12 month' bitch. Which means she will only come into season once a year. Which would be quite convenient for you.

Annabelle is now on 90 points. Only 10 more to her show title. She is due in season in August. I have quite a few girls who tend to bring each other 'on' so am hoping that she will keep in with the rest of them.

Will post pictures and a brag when she gets her title.

    Cheers,

    Carmel

we had Ziggy at 6months old from my parents in the Isle of Wight, my step father past away and my mum could not cope with a puppy, so we took him back with us on the understanding that we would find him a new home but as you can see we still have him and we would not change that for the world. He is such a loving boy and we have all got use to having him around, I can't really recall what it was like before we had him.

Well apart from our cats sitting on the back of the sofas rather then a big dog.

So ziggy had not meet a cat untill he moved in with us and Max & Miffy are not really doggy cats, they tend to chase other dogs for fun...

  • Lyn Woyzbun

    Hi Eunice

Nice to hear from another Australian.   We bought this puppy from near Coffs Harbour so she is having to acclimatise to our cold winter.  She is gorgeous but I had forgotten how boisterous Irish Setter puppies are.  Our last Irish lived till she was nearly 14 so it's a long time since we had a puppy - and I was a lot younger then!   But it will be worth the effort - they are the most wonderful dogs.

  • Carmel Stringfellow

    Hi Eunice,

fingers crossed for Annabelle this weekend. She has two shows and only 5 points to get. After that Aust Ch Shadowvale Annabelle. Then I will take the poor darling out of the ring. She still gets so distressed about travelling. She starts to drool and shake when she sees the dog trailer!!!

Her 'husband', Mac got his title last Friday. In just four months!!! So proud of both of them..

Will post on ES as soon as she gets those points.

Give Molly a hug from us!!

    Naughty Molly,

but Salmon is so good I don't blame her.

It would depend on how many dogs I was bringing as to how I would travel to the Royal Easter Show. But I am definetly coming soon. Would love bringing Molly's neice and maybe our Annabelle if she coud grow out of her sickness.

I am getting glared at by my daughter who wants the computer.

    Will chat soon.

    Sorry Eunice,

Yes, excited and a little scared. As you know, Annabelle and Molly's litter numbered 16. Their mother's uterus split and she had to have emergency ceasarean. I will be carefully monitoring Annabelle with several ultrasounds and will do an elective ceasarean if neccessary!
  • graham edwards

    Hello Eunice,

Yes we are looking forward to the pup. It's been a long while since we have had a red but the passion has always been there. It's really great news about Mac and Annabelle with their points. Such a nice pair of dogs. Mac had a real passion for my Granddaughter when he met her. Their personality really won me along with their looks, that is why we are prepared to wait as long as it takes.

Just read Carmels comment to you, I'm sure all will be well and there will be no problems. She seems a bit worried.

My wife Gay, has been hooked on traceing the heritage of Annabelle and Mac back and has gone a fair way. along with the pedigrees of our previous setters.

Cheryl Corey has been a great help with that but Gay has been addicted.

Any way, great to hear from you,

all the best and keep in touch.

    Graham.

  • Carmel Stringfellow

    Hi Eunice,

sorry it has taken a while to answer. Kids and dogs!!! What a dreadful combination.

Annabelle will be monitored through every step of her pregnancy. I will NOT allow anthing to happen to Annabelle. If, on ultrasound, we see more than 14 puppies, it will be an elective ceasarean. I will quite simply put everything else on hold to be with Annabelle and the puppies!!

    I can't wait.

Will contact the breeder of Annabelle's mother and find if big litters are part of her line. I have emailed her before and she was a bit worried about the lack of contact with the owner of Annabelle and Molly's mother so is very happy to talk to me. Linda the breeder - has just had some big wins in Ireland!

I see you are talking to Graham. That is great. Mac is actually besotted with that child and is quite embarrassing.

    CXX

  • Carmel Stringfellow

Linda King is a very well know breeder from the UK, Her Kirkavagh lines are all over the world. Molly's uncle is in NZ and is a champion there. Another litter sister, Molly's aunt is a champion in the UK. I have always liked Linda's stuff so when Sally contacted me about Brodie I was very keen. It took another year before she actually brought Phoebe up to be mated and I had already said that my stud fee was the pick girl!! Hence my lovely Annabelle.

As you know the reason dear Molly has my kennel prefix is because Sally didn't want to go through the rigours of registering with Dogs Qld.so simply transferred Phoebe into my name.

And we know the drama after that.

Mac is very special as well. He was born on the same day as Annabelle and things didn't go so well with that litter. But I got Mac and I am grateful. He has got his title in four months...so very proud of him.

He is from a rather unknown line from the UK and my own Sophy. She is from Amhurst lines with good old Mountshannon lines thrown in.

I am extremely confident that this mating will produce great puppies.

If you are interested in pedigrees and heritage, I suggest you contact Cheryl Corey. She actually has Molly's half brother and she is a demon with pedigrees!!

    Take care

    Talk soon

The black spot on the tongue is called the Wendover Spot. Very common in the 'english' lines as most of the dogs can be traced back to Wendover breeding.

I don't know what the snoring is about. Brodie, Molly's Dad, snores occassionally but not persistantly. Maybe comes from her Mum?!

  • Sherry Miller

Hi Eunice...just looking at Baby Molly's pictures again...sort of got sidetracked answering you!  She sure is a cutie...love those with the kitty's.  My Molly is helping Alan fix the fence this week...waiting for neighbors to come home so they let her two Black Lab girl friends out so they can romp before the new fence is up! Afraid the three of them are going to miss having double lawn to romp about .  Off to work in a bit
  • Sherry Miller

Should not have to be woken by their music! and know something? you are not really complaining but asking them to show some simple human decency!  Our Molly has just worn herself out today....played all AM with the two Black Labs next door....fence down so they are having a ball...Alan said she ran and played so much she basically slept the rest of the day away.  Funny to watch them take turns going to each others back door to see if the other will come out to play.  Molly actually ignored them this PM.....she was one worn out little lady.  I don't have a day off till next Thursday....working in between the two stores but think next week will be my last week out there.  Funny to see the difference between the two stores.

  • Sherry Miller

hi...sounds like you have been keeping busy.  Molly here had the play day with her two girlfriends.....they are loving having that fence down..I told Alan they voted to keep it that way.  Suits my Molly to a tee as their yard is fenced with a low see thru fence so she can see the sidewalk and street.....on two sides as it is a corner house.........she is such a busybody that she loves that.  Everyone is getting greeted as they walk as she is nosey..........most people around here know Molly so she gets petted also.  What a nosey little lady she is....social butterfly.  Tristan has taken one of Molly's sterilized bones home to chew .....which is fine as she never chews one outside but funny to watch as Molly could have cared less if Tristan took her bone...think she wanted to help her carry it home! Trinity is the younger Lab so they play really well together...Tristan is older and has some issues with walking now so Molly just nuzzles her mostly.  Their owners are expecting their first little one in September...a girl...so will be interesting to see how Molly reacts to that new little one.  So far she just loves all the little ones she has met....loves to watch the little one two doors down thru the fence...seems fascinated with seeing what she is doing.  I do believe she would have been a wonderful pet for young ones.

Worked other store today...and open in AM and have that trivia night tomorrow for my sister.........then work straight thru until Thursday alternating between the two stores.  Think this will be last week I am out there.

No sign of that bully stick and hoping Alan forgot he has one more of them.!!! Know how I was thinking of getting Molly some deer antler to chew on?  one's in stores here are pretty pricey so have been teasing Alan and Angie everytime we are out that they find some antlers for me....well sure enough Angie came back from Montana with a deer antler!!!  but  even though Molly wants it I think Angie wants to keep it for now as a souvenir of her trip as it is a whole antler.  I lost out again!  Sounds like my Molly...getting excited about getting a pat from people....it is more an expectation than anything I think with her....people are supposed to pet her because her name is Molly I think!  She is pretty tired again tonight after spending the day playing with her girlfriends....wonder if they gossip?

It sounds like your grandkids will have a very busy trip...and may well be more than ready for just some downtime with you....and take lots of pictures of them with Baby Molly?  hugs

now not so much wine that you are looking at the film with rose colored glasses!  Hope you enjoy the film....should have some beautiful scenery....not sure but thought I heard Alaska had an earthquake?  I m off to bed as need to be up at 6 am.....talk soon...give Molly a Molly hug from My Molly.
