Oh I agree entierly...I just love Jas the way she is...am taking her to the pet shop tomorrow to choose her birthday present..will try and take some pictures there and post them later in the day...my goodness how she has improved. She is just looking lovely...wool and all....we have got to cherish them for as long as we can, for their very short stay on this earth...

    Speak soon...

  • Dee Rance

Oh I think that she will be more for the food too, but a week ago she wasn't eating, so am really pleased that she is now trying to steal anything and everything. I really never thought that she would ever turn 10 it is a wonderful feeling that she is going to be that age tomorrow... fantastic wee girl...

I don't know about the other places...BOB BIG BIS Jas would definitely give him a run for his money....ha ha....perhaps Lego Best Dog and Jas Best Bitch....there you go....decision made....

all the best to you and yours too...Dee and the gang

  • Sherry Miller

Molly tolerates brushing for a wee bit....but funny thing is she lovesssssss to take a shower and you can brush, comb , groom all you want in there.  Does not care if you clean her ears but no long intense grooming ....so off she goes a few times of the year to the groomer and I just maintain inbetween times. She is overdue now to visit the groomer.....and even there they do half and then let her play with the purse puppies ( she lovessssss them and they think she is a big playground for them) and then they do the other half!  Right now trying to put off groomer until the zosia grass here turns green as I swear Molly is bringing in the brown runners to plant a lawn in my living room!  When I catch her carrying water to those brown runners she and I will have a heart to heart talk!  or is that heart to head? ?)  I love Molly just how she is but sometimes wonder if  I should be using product on her personality topknot!

    Thank you very much.

We don't show Molly at all. We just enjoy her company....infact I am getting excited because soon it will be time for Miss Molly to do lunch again!  She loved it last year and behaved so well...and it amazed us how many people either "used to have an IS BUT...." or had no idea what type of dog she was!  Good for both sorts to see that an IS can be a great companionship dog as they had a bad reputation here for a long time....then I add in that we rescued her and they really start wondering! :) so I guess we do a different sort of show than the other IS on here.")

Sometimes with burrs or thorny brambles that are the devil to get out of those feathers I crush them flat and then work them out as that way they don't keep gathering more feathers into them.  Molly does not like hair driers but tolerates it if you insist...she likes us to towel dry her and then let her romp thru the house in hopes she can hop up on Alan's side of the bed to "wallow" herself dry.:) Naturally I get a giggle out of that cause he stole my dog!

  • Dee Rance

I did give her a trim for her birthday, but it won't take her long to be back to her old Moth eaten self...lovely can't wait for it....as you say we love them........hair and all....and that is how it should be, don't you think...;o))
  • Dee Rance

Hi there Michelle, the Steroids very nearly killed her, they were very strong and they increased her heart rate to over 200 bpm if this had gone on long enough that would have killed her anyway...and what it actually did was to knock her kidneys and liver out....in fact last week she was so very bad that I had made up my mind that she was going to go to the vet for her check up and then have the vet come out on Tuesday and put her down....thank goodness she 'bounced back' on Monday...she is, as you say, a real fighter...and to survive two different types of cancer and then all the problems with her liver etc she is so good. Long may she be with me...she has been through so very much in her life, she deserves to have a wonderful retierment...I think if it were up to her though she would be back in the ring again with Chloe...(her best, two legged friend)....
  • Sherry Miller

Irish here the "it" dog back in early 1970s  (we got our first in 73)....after the Big Red movie....lot of people wanting them, not training them and when they found out they were a wee bit wild, jumping fences, demanding attention....all of a sudden they no longer wanted the dog which accounts for many of the "I used to have an Irish" comments we hear and for the idea that Irish Setters are dumb dogs who are untrainable!  HMPH! and double HMPH! to that . Our first one I knew nothing about the breed....just knew we saw one running across a field and decided we needed a dog who looked like that....but I learned along with my first Shilo.  We saw the same thing here with Dalmations after 101 Dalmations came out....Golden Retrievers also and later even the small dogs who became favorites of so called movie star diva's .  So while I want the IS to be known  and appreciated for what a wonderful companion it can be, and how smart they really are as well as pretty I do not want them to ever become the "IT" dog again as it harms the breed due to quick breeding to fill a "want" for an uneducated consumer who really finds the dog is too much for them to handle so in the end it harms the breed more than it helps them.

Always before we had our males....and I was busy raising my girls (or someone else's little one) until Miss Molly.  I love to watch  the Dog shows, have thought about doing obedience shows with my IS but always end up just plain old loving them here at home.  :) Glad you enjoy showing your gang and have some success so close to home.....and what a great way to meet people and see the countryside. Now that I might enjoy doing.  Had a former coworker  who showed Brittany's but her dogs were commodity's to her and not beloved companions...crated all but their excercise period each day which I found so sad.  She tried to get me into showing Brittany's with her but to me that was opposite of how I want my dogs to be.

  • Dee Rance

I think that she has got old really quickly, but then she has had to put up with so very much in the past six months....she is a real lady, and a fighter...and yes she really does wear her grey well...as for Mr Posh well he is just a 'nut case' lovable but nuts...I would have called him something like that but I have a theme all names begin with M....and the Mr part really tied in nicely but of cause there is always at least one exception....Mrs Robinson....but that ties in with their theme...so all is well.

Thanks so much for the lovely comments on my pictures....

  • Sherry Miller

Michelle just don't make the mistake of eating lots of chocolate Easter eggs and bunnies while you try to keep Legolas calm!   Hope you have a happy and peaceful Easter.
  • Jo Ottinger

Luckly I have not had to keep Hawk quite.  I know when he starts to drive me crazy because he is bored I try to think what my life would be without him and he is forgiven for what ever he has done.

  • Teresa

    Hello Michelle,
It truly is a relieve to have both girls back to normal.
I really hope Legolas recovers fast as well, and that you can both survive the next weeks! Mind games really worked for my girls... hidding treats, food ball, treat puzzles and so on!
  • Sherry Miller

Michelle bad thing is I am addicted to dark chocolate! and I love popcorn but am trying to behave here.  Hoping you have a wonderful Easter and Legolas keeps improving each day.  I went to two pet stores today and am amazed at all the toys for dogs!  Some I just looked at and wondered who the heck would buy that silly thing as it would last about five minutes!  others I wanted to buy the lot as they had so many clever ideas ...Molly here loves all the puzzles she has to figure out how to get the food out of...but have to rotate and not overdo it with them as otherwise it is too easy for her.  Afraid  I did not behave in those pet stores today....just decided to replace a few much loved toys here and then got a wee bit carried away.
  • Teresa

    Hi Michelle,

35kg is really big!!! Romã's father was also that big, Pitanga looked like a tiny puppy next to the dog. You are right in not wanting him to get too heavy, it wouldn't be good for his arm. Please keep me posted on his recovery, I'm hopping for some good news fast =)

Happy easter to you all, and a special pat to Legolas, to make sure he keeps up his fast recovery!

  • Sherry Miller

Michelle...no pretty dresses for Molly...and not sure she would wear a coat even..though there was one pink dress that had me laughing outloud yesterday at the thought of dripping diva boa feathers as she walked.  Easter Egg?  dang Molly will have her own Easter Basket ( see how frustrated I am with grandkids 1200 miles away?) and I will hide some toys for her to find in the house ( too wet for outside).  She already stole one this week which has been the game here ...she steals it, hides it, brings it out for Alan to toss for her, then I ask her where she got that from and put it back where she found it only to have her retrieve it again. I know she is spoiled but that year without an IS or any dog in our lives she is reaping the benefits of! No I am not dressing up as the Easter Bunny for her!

We do have those mints here and we do like them also....dark chocolate and mint just seems to go together .  Do you flavor your popcorn or just do butter and salt?  Ido have a microwave popcorn popper here ...benefit to it is you use no oil in it so it is legal for Molly to have some as long as I don't add all the salt and butter to it .  She loves her small bowl of popcorn but wants us to toss it to her one at a time to eat it.   Hope you have a peaceful, relaxing Easter.

  • Marjolein Bogaard

Nice to meet you to Michelle and have an nice Easter!!
  • Sherry Miller

Michelle Legolas looks so cute in his little coat....I wonder if Molly would wear one here?  she hates being wrapped up in a bath towel to dry but>> thinking. I also hate that wet wooly smell...lucky here as in yucky weather Molly is content to run around in backyard with us watching from inside....she needs boots though big time! mud , Mud , mud could be her middle name lately.

I know Molly will at least get her basket tomorrow...chewies and new toy or two and some special doggie cookies but weather is supposed to be wet so debating on her Easter hunt this year....might postpone it til we have some dry weather as last year it was fun to watch her run around and discover things hidden in her wilderness cave..(under two bushes and has vines over it and she hollowed out a spot she can crawl into to try to get her birds) .  Not sure how much longer she will have her "cave" as we need to replace the fence so will see how things go tomorrow.  We have had run of rather bad storms here this past week and projected more rain for about four more days but keep reminding myself that April showers bring May flowers....just will probably be too wet to plant any in early May.

Walk sounds like a lot of fun and I am sorry that Legolas will not get to go this year but hope that very soon he can be out and about with you again.  I hope you have a wonderful Easter.

  • Marjolein Bogaard

Hi Michelle, thanks again for your nice words about my dogs! Yes they definitely have a good life, juust like yours as I can se. The places were you can take them out are really beautiful! I am always looking for nice places for walks. Jim loves to swim, so when I get back home I will take him to the beach when the weather is fine. He also loves to swim in the Balaton Lake, but these days he is not allowed to swim there, because he is just groomed for the shows ;-)

  • martina mckeag

Thats a beautiful photo of your boys Michelle hope you have a nice Easter

and that Legolas is beaing good

  • Dee Rance

    Hi there Michelle

Well good luck with the 'keeping him quiet' I find the cage helps a little, but they can still climb the walls of them...Oh I don't envy you....

I hope that he has been OK for you since you wrote...sorry for not getting back to you sooner....Will speak soon

    Dee and the gang

  • martina mckeag

Thank you Michelle she is so sweet Shannon will always be my number one at the

moment shes just walking round her but hope fully they will  be  best  friends

best wishes Martina and the girls

  • Sherry Miller

Michelle...what wonderful news that Lego's is doing so well.  He is just a character if his picture tells the story right..the one of him trying to look back up at his own hair is one to keep ...afraid I would be carrying that one in my wallet  as it is so cute.

We are doing fine here...waiting out another bad storm warning here...too many of them lately.  Molly wanting backdoor open so she can watch the storm move in. She just keeps us all laughing and smiling here...just so thankful to be owned by her.

  • Sherry Miller

Michelle ...that is my favorite picture of Molly...her mouth full of toys as that is how we are greeted when we come home..and how she walks around the house...even funnier when she roos at us with that mouth full.  That ball and her Lamb Chop are her favorite toys so she carries them everywhere.  Thanks for the comments.
  • Sherry Miller

Will just keep Legolas on my wish list in prayers here.  Molly still wanting back door open here...silly girl.  Tornado warnings at least out of picture right now but after what happened downstate earlier this week it is really making everyone pay more attention to them.

So Legola's was not trying to see what you did to his head ...still makes a darling picture of him.  I do not give raw hide here...have used sterilized bones which I stuff with things and Molly loves them even when not stuffed.  Tried a bully stick which she loved but mostly for hiding...she hides any bones even milk bones before eating them. Keeps us laughing to watch her do that as none of our lads did that.  Looked up what a bully stick is so doubt I will be buying another one here! Funny how each dog is the same in some ways but different in ways that teach us new behaviors.  All our IS have loved soft toys and carried them around...unstuff them a wee bit but never eat the stuffing...just funny to watch.  Molly loves anything that squeaks...has figured out if Alan is watching tv the easiest way to get his attention is with a nice loud squeaking toy.  Hope Lego's just surprises everyone and keeps on just doing like he is right now.

  • Chantal McIlveen-Wright

Thanks for you kind and friendly message Michelle, always good to hear from you and your 2 boys. Thanks for the latest pictures, absolutely brilliant, I really love your punky man. How is Legolas doing these days?  is his shoulder problem solved now?

Darwin is doing ok, well as best as possible in his condition. Soon he will get a wee brother!!!! David is over the moon, and in a way I am extatic too because if david wants to find his things he will have to clean  his room  :-)  :-)

Wish you all the very best Michelle, plenty of cuddles to Legolas and Theoden  :-)

  • Eunice Marott

thanks Michelle. Molly lives with 2 cats. She had travelled most of the day car, plane before finally arriving at Sydney airport. This photo was taken on arrival. She was in a strange place, cat and new people. She travelled most of the day before that picture was taken. The black cat in the picture is her best friend here.
  • Eunice Marott

thanks... the teddy in the picture is still with her but not in such good shape.
  • Eunice Marott

I have had setters on and off for years and always with cats. We live in the suburbs house, fence, yard etc.  Molly has a great nature but I think could be a devil if left alone as she proved a few weeks ago by stealing food from the bench. They are building a house next door which she is not too happy about with the noise and strange people. Nor is her owner.
  • Robert Krajnc

    Thanks Michelle! Robert
  • KC and the boys

I'm well. Thank you. Looking forward to the bank hols for sure. I miss Errol when I'm at work. Been looking into getting another dog, a rescue IS from Ireland. Doubt it will work out though.

Re: Legolas - Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You do have to take some credit for the great character shots you take of your boys! It takes a good eye and great artistic skill.

    Have a nice weekend.

  • martina mckeag

Hi Michelle yes shannon and sophie are getting on well she is getting bigger  she has a mind of her own so differnt to what shannon was as a pup glad to see Legolas back to his normal self i just love him.
  • Eunice Marott

not sure if Molly knows how to catch birds. She likes to be indoors but lately a bit more outside because it is winter here.

The house next door is a pain. This morning Saturday the brick layers are outside at 7am and they can look straight into the main bedroom. I also like my sleep in on Saturdays. Molly is getting quite demanding. When I am sitting on the lounge (sofa) and she wants her spot she hits me with her paws to tell me to move. Not so sure this is a good thing?

  • martina mckeag

Hi Michelle Shannon is doing better so far she has had no leaks for three days

  • Teresa

    Hi Michelle!

I'm really glad that both boys are doing fine and that Legolas is jumping around as a pup - he certainly deserves it!

The Girls are doing fine, just readjusting to our very very hot summer, so we are still adapting to the new walking schedule.

how wonderful that you decided to add a little red to your family, I'm sure you are all very pleased with the new arrival. Best of luck with your new setter - I'll be looking forward to see some pictures of the lovely baby!

  • Dee Rance

    Hi there Michelle

Thanks for the lovely comment on Yvonne's blog...I was so thrilled with my boy...me I could hardly walk all that running...my god that dog can't half move...with me trotting along behind....

Thanks again Dee and the gang

  • Dee Rance

Thanks so much for that...he is the second best thing (shared with his mother) in my life...the best Jasmine....but you are rite, he did move like a train for the judge...thank goodness he was tiered...and he was very steady...for a change...mad dog that he is...

  • martina mckeag

Hi Michelle hows my favourite boy keeping when do you get your new redhead

bet you can't wait i know i was counting the days

  • KC and the boys

Hi Michelle - thanks for your lovely message. The adoption hasn't worked out but we're not in a hurry. The right dog will come along one day - probably unexpectedly just like Errol did.   :)  I haven't been on ES for a while - been really busy at work - so have lots to catch up on. Btw. I'm reading Tolkin's The Hobbit - it always reminds me of your boys. Have a good w/e.  KC

  • Sherry Miller

uhoh...looks like I missed a few things here...a red head coming to own you?  I was gone a few weeks and then working two stores so not here a lot.  What exciting news that is.  I am going to be looking forward to puppy pictures and stories galore with all the new puppies on ES.

Molly would love to go hunting with Theoden....she also is quite the hunter and always fun to watch her passion for it.  Hope all goes well with the new puppy arriving .

  • Sherry Miller

hmph! I must have been out of town ...what have you named your new little one?  I am imagining a great name as all your other lads have such awesome names.  Is the new little one keeping you running after him?  I hope soon the older lads will take him under their wings oops paws and do the bulk of teaching him the house rules!  Have fun and enjoy that puppy as they grow up all too fast!   Just saw that your new Red head is Rohan....like the name as we were trying to adopt an Irish Lad of that name when Miss Molly fell into our world.  and Molly would especially love to hunt where she had room to run, run , run....but still see her Mom!  she worries if she gets too far from us but loves to hunt and run.  Her latest is the neighbors downspout....chipmunk runs in there so she has her nose in it all the time lately....waiting for that chipmunk to nip her on the nose but so far she just outwaits Molly which is quite a bit of time she can not leave that downspout...I do call Molly off though as truth be told I do not wish for her to have contact with Chippie! I sort of made the chipmunks and rabbits and squirrels my pets that year we did not have an Irish in our lives.

  • Sherry Miller

Michelle my last Shilo was a whoopping 79 lbs and not an ounce of it was fat........just a big boy!!  Maybe Rohan will be your gentle giant?  Hoping anyway?  Chipmunks are cute to watch but are driving Molly crazy.......we are replacing the fence the tornado blew down and have the old wood stacked on the patio...they play under.on top and run around on it right in front of the patio door.......Molly will watch them until she just can not stand it another minute....really sets her off when they run under the patio step under her window......out she goes and the chase is on....they go back under that wood, up the 6 foot wooden fence and chatter at her. One very frustrated Irish Lady here  ....this is then repeated by the two young squirrels who make it a game to run two diferent ways so she has to make a split decision on who to stalk.  She is quite a stalker and seems to think nothing would notice a 60 lb red dog slinking across the lawn after it.   Funny to watch as she stalks slower that the slowest slow motion.  As you can tell I am still as crazy about our Molly as I was before....if not worse!  Hope you soon post pictures of you new Red Man......and your lads as they learn to become a family.
  • martina mckeag

Hi  Michelle Rohan is absulutely beautiful he will win many cups

what is is pedigree. Shannon and sophie are doing well sophie is growing like a leek mind you they have goods days and bad days but they are still together. Hows my best boy Legolas doing still haveing bad hair days .

big hug to all Martina and girls

  • Mary Walshe

You have some lovely doggies there and some fab photos to prove it! I enjoyed very much  browsing through them :)
  • Mary Walshe

Thanks Michelle ! I don't have all the doggies in the photos, some have sadly passed on and some were rescues that were rehomed. (I'm not a rescue but I did take in a few doggies that were hard up for a home) I have Robin an Irish  Red Setter (she two is a rescue but is now my girl)and the two sisters Bronte and Blair the Irish Red and White Setters (these IRWS are not rescues) and a White Shepherd called Wolf and Goliath the Gt Dane(another rescue) and thats my lot. I must do a video of all of them together one of the days!
  • Sherry Miller

So far Molly has only caught two sparrows.....one was the oddest thing I have ever seen....we d taken a walk and were walking in the front door and she just jumped up and stuck her head in the bush and came out with a bird.....she immediately dropped it but sure surprised me.  Two years in a row we have had a nest of cardinals in the rose bush right by our patio....we just told her to leave them alone and so far she has.....when the babies are on the ground learning to fly we do take her out in front instead but that has been the only change we have had to make with her. Amazed us all that she did not go after them but would sit and watch the mother go in and out feeding them.  Now the turtle hunt was another story...I was sure it must be a huge snake that had her jumping back and barking at it....in and out of her wilderness cave she kept going....finally I got brave enough....to go see only to find a common box turtle playing her big time....she would sneak up and the turtle would stick it's head out and back she would go.....we finally relocated the turtle to a wooded lot by us so she could lay her eggs in peace and quiet.  Funny how something so small could scare her....I think it was the fact that everytime she sneaks up on something it always runs away fast and the turtle just ducked inside!!  Silly girl.

My Shilo was bench stock.....but not shown by us....just loved and spoiled rotten.  He ruled the roost here except when Pebbles was vacationing with us....then it was Pebbles the boss.  I did find that with my boys that they were never assertive at home or away.  Just more interested in having a good romp and play session .  Pebbles would walk up to Shilo and take bones etc away from him ....and then go lie down on top of them....and Shilo just did not care.  My Dad would wait for Shilo to put Pebbles in his place but it never did happen.  Nature of Irish Setters I think is not to fight but to be lovers!

  • Teresa Gisby

Hi Michelle, nice to hear from you. Thank you for your nice comment about Simba. Hope your pleased with your boy, have you any photos of him?
