About Me:
I'm a dentist in Phoenix, Arizona. I've been out of Irish Setters for 30+ years and only recently acquired Am Can Ch Captiva's Still Got It. She has re-ignited my interest in the breed, in breeding and the show ring. With my family all grown, I now have the time and finances to pursue this interest.

Welcome John, this is a great site. I believe there are some Captiva stock in Australia. cheers from down under.

We normally don't have much snow at that time of year. Last year we had a good fall but by Irish standards - a few inches!!!! Most winters we lave little or none.Usually the Irish climate is mild and moist!!! So bring rain coats!! If I can be of further help let me know!

    Hi John
Thanks for the reply. Wife went to the coast during school holidays with Connie (grand-daughter). She also took Youngin and the poodle not to mention the good laptop. We are in North Queenland which is about 1800 miles from Melbourne. We are showing new poodle there next years National and are getting a setter pup from there shortly. We have a show the weekend after next at Rockhampton.
Really like your girl and looks like she will knock their socks off when she matures. They are very nice photos

    Hi John
Heard you bought pup by Hugo. If so congratulations, he is a beautiful dog and will go well with any bloodlines as he has so much to offer not only overall quality but a great temperment and nature. You must be excited.
    Cheers Rick
PS Youngin has a small black spot on his toungue I think it just pigmentation as they have dark eyes and noses or should have.

    Hi John
Will keep in contact. Excited for you as there is always great hope with new puppies. Wish you all the best with him.

    Hi John
Its winter over here and its the best time of year from April through to October then it starts getting hot. Summer temps are usually above 40C for Dec - March if its not raining and then its still mid 30'sC and very humid. Air con is a must.We and the dogs are not far away from it.
    Cheers Rick

Hi there John thank you for taking the time to write what you did on my discussion I wonder if the info is only applicable to the US we will see if my girl has the rite type of melanoma to be put into the scheme, Again thanks for your very interesting input, Dee and the gang
  • Dee Rance

    Hi there again John
Thanks so much for all your help, it is so nice that there are still some on here that are prepared to help, This is what this site is all about, help not nastiness, And you have epitomized the former, I for one am so grateful, Thanks again Dee and the gang
ps. I will try and keep everyone updated as to how she goes, you never know it may help others, The message is that you should always keep and eye inside your dogs mouths..

    Hi John
Hope you are going well with the pup. He looks great. Like your forum as it could cause a little stir. Some people over here are obsessed with the English type and cannot see beyond it. No open minds. Look at Hugo he is a cross and he is divine not only in looks but temperment.
    Cheers Rick

    Hi John
What stunning pictures you have of your dogs.
  • Dee Rance

I suspect that she may well be too small for the US, but she thanks for the invite anyway, I too like the long ears....All the best Dee and the gang
  • ricky young

    Hi John
Hope all is well over the big pond there. Is your pup going well. See your comments to Dee about the ear feathering and totally agree it just adds to the expression. Even our English imports here have ears and look great. Best Wishes Rick

Thank you John, Bailey is doing really well. My Grandfather was from Co. Monaghan and most of his family went to the US except I think, his father. We have cousins in Amhurst, NY.

    Hi John
Hows things over there in the desert, wish we could send you some of this rain that wont stop. We've only had five dry days in the last two months. We are currently stuck as the roads are flooded. The only way out is by chopper. Bet things are cooling down a bit over there.
Your boy appears to be growing well.
Best of luck for the weekend.
    Cheers Rick

    Hi John .

Hope you had a great Christmas and New Year

Our pup out of Carina is 8 weeks and we are just patiently waiting for Leigh and Anne Marie to select our pup.

We have had terrible weather over this side of the big pond lately with some major flooding. We got to within 200 klms of Tieri (home) after a holiday in NSW and Canberra and had to turn back and go a detour of 2000klms + which took 33 hours solid driving through our outback seeing it so green with all the rivers and creeks running. We had to turn back several times and find alternatives or take the longer way as many roads and town were under water.

    Cheers Rick

    Hi John

Things should be starting to warm up over there. How did prophet go at his first show. Our new pup should arrive in the next week or so. There are photos of him on www.pendoric.com au which one is him I dont know yet but they all look phenomenal. First show should be in March 12 - 13 at Mackay. We have baby puppy classes  3-6 months.

    Cheers for now Rick

    Hi John

All well over there we hope. Have watched the Westminster videos . The old girl did herself proudly. She looked great in group as they all did.  Pup arrives in a week today so we are eagerly awaiting his arrival. Nothing much happening show wise for a while but things get busy up around Easter.

    Cheers Rick

Hi John...thank you and am glad to accept on being your ES friend....have been following your wonderful dogs in pictures since I joined the site...and lovely scenic pictures are also enjoyed here.  Irish fan here  since 1973 (when I did not know how addictive the little devils are) so I am truly enjoying this site and all the wonderful setters on here.

    Hi John,

Hope things are going well over there across the pond. It's starting to cool down over here (freezing at Finch Hatton at the weekend where the Pioneer Valley Kennel Club and Show Society hold their shows). Youngin was Group 2nd on Saturday and BOB on Sunday. Josh had big weekend at Townsville on with a R/U in Group a Minor Puppy in Group and 2 Minor Puppy in Shows. Youngin stayed home to look after me that weekend. Had a look at your photos and page and your boy is developing well. Well I'll say cheers for now and wish you, your family, and Irish mates all the best.

    Cheers Rick

    Hi John,

I just wondered if you ever traced down anything on that black tongue spot?  Young man two blocks over from us has an IS with one and asked me about it today.  Told him it was normal for some lines and that I would try to find out if there was a USA line that is seems to come down thru...searching on here found out you also had questions about it.  Thank in advance and try to stay cool down there!

  • Dee Rance

Hi there John I tired to find out what/who you were expecting...but nothing...see later what it was....hopefully...Yours Dee and the kids
