40 years
About Me:
Absolutely dedicated to the breed, along with English Setters.
Born in England, I moved to Australia as a child, and in my teens started importing Irish Setters from Wendover Kennels, and English Setters from Suntop Kennels. My latest Irish imports in 2004, 2009 and another in 2013 are all from the beautiful Copper's Kennel in Sweden.
I am a qualified Championship Judge for All Gundogs and the Non Sporting Group, and an Open Show Judge for all Toys, Terriers and Hounds.
My judging takes me all over the world, something I enjoy immensely.

    Thank you Myra.

I must admit I have been an observer of the forum for a while. Always such interesting things being discussed.

Have a little more spare time now so I thought I would have a go. I must be having Irish Indeed withdrawals!!

Hope all your red heads are fit and well.

    Cheers

Thanks Myra for your thoughts of comfort

Yes, Kruszynka was very special girl - that kind of dog who has only one owner - she was solely and only mine. Since first seconds of her life...

    Hello Myra.

Peter Hennig has started a Summer theme.

Possible to put up a pic of the beach, with or without Irish?

    Cheers

    Dear Myra,

Thanks for your welcome to this site.  I thought you might be interested to learn that two Australian Irish Setters have just been imported into South Africa by Linda-May Strydom of Sasolburg , namely Cianronninnis Lapis Lazuli  and Highperelle Jazz of Windrose.  It has been many years since we had any Irish with American ancestry as both this dog and bitch have. Mostly our stock is of European importation or descent.

Wherever in the world Irish Setters are imported into SA from they must either be DNA tested or proven inherited clear by virtue of ancestry having DNA tested CLEAR of CLAD and PRA rcd 1 before the Kennel Union of Southern Africa will Register them on the Breed Register.  This ruling was approved some years ago when we began a mass screening using Optigen Lab USA (at great expense)   Fortunately, Inqaba (pronounced Incarba) Biotec Animal Genetic Testing Lab opened in SA and both Australian imports were DNA tested CLEAR of CLAD and PRA rcd 1.  Perhaps this information is of use to the custodians of the records and/or your Australian Canine Governing Body, if so copies of SA KUSA Health Screening Certificates can be provided.

I am pleased to report that with the exception of one breeder who has failed to test, all other Irish in SA are genetically clear of both CLAD and PRA rcd 1.

I'm hopeful that if will not be too long before SA's Inqaba can acquire detailed scientific information regarding LOPRA rcd 4 as to use UK's Animal Health Trust is beyond most SA breeder's pocket with a current exchange rate of between R12.00 and R13.00 to one English pound.  What is the position in Australia regarding this matter?

    Await your response with interest

Thank you somuch Myra - will have to get clicking so that I can post some pics.  We might be in Perth towards the end of this year  - maybe we can meet up?

My Setter story goes back a very long way.  My grandparents bred Setters in the 1940s - I still have pics of them on the farm.  My first one Wendy came from that stock around 1975.  Then a huge gap in which I owned many other breeds, mainly Dachshunds - talk about chalk and cheese!  Then in 2005 we visited the local SPCA (we live between Durban and Pietermaritzburg on the east coast) and there was this beautiful dog who had been brought in to be rehomed.  I will find the story I wrote about him and let you have it.  In 2010 we had to put him down as he had cancer of the lungs - one of the worst days of my life as he was my soul mate.  In November 2011 a breeder dumped 2 Setters , a dog and an old bitch together with 7 beagles into the same SPCA - They then contacted me and asked if I could rehome him.  A very special dog - has been severely abused but we have had him for 6 months now and he is much much better.  We also have a Dachsie bitch whom we rehomed from an elderly couple who were moving into an old age home.  There in a nutshell is my Setter story.  They are simply the best.  Marilyn

  • Nadine Bonjean

Thank you Myra for your comment!

  • Peter Hiscock

Thank you Myra. Elaine (my wife) and I can hardly wait. Choosing a name for the little chap has been quite a task.

  • Peter Hiscock

I am having to stop myself from telephoning Claire every 10 minutes to find out how the babies are doing. Grace is beautiful - possibly the most beautiful lady I have ever met, but then Stella and Spirit are pretty amazing too. I can't leave out Moet who is most handsome even if he did mug Elaine and me for a kiss :-)  I have just realized - Claire was probably talking to you (my friend in Oz) when I called her to ask about the litter the first time. I now have to find my way around this site and see if I can post some picks of our late beautiful boy Finn. Kind regards Pete

  • Cornelia

Thanks, Myra! Let's hope you do not have to wait so long for the next installement :-). C & J xxx

  • Ellen Turberfield

Hi Myra, what lovely photos of your lovely dogs (",)

  • Cornelia

Thanks for your nice comment, Myra! Yes there are still Puffins in England and of course in Scotland and Island - and Irleand :-) - on the 'mainland' you only find them in Norway quite far north. The island of Runde is a three days drive from us, when I do 1000ks on the first day... Have a nice weekend - your puppies are so sweet!! All the best, C & J xxx
