Long but not so thick....at least at 14 yrs. Wanted to trim because we have hot summers but vet fears sunburn???

Yes, my vet says the same thing ... the long hair actually insulates them from some of the heat too.

I was rather clueless about grooming at first. Poor Dudley is a tangled mess in this picture after woods romping. Neighbors thought he was an afghan hound but my Dudley is AKC ( off the height charts, tho'!)  I now have him professionally washed monthly and I comb him daily. Towel massage followed by comb outs are good for the ole boy's circulatory system. Mainly he seems to enjoy the sensation.....and attention
