Hi Denise, lovely pic of Billy and Charlie.

How are the boys going?  Looks like they are great mates.

cheers

Graham:

Billy (Deanway Silver Lining) is Sc Ch Danaway Lancelot of Autumnwood x Millcroft Silver Moon

Chalie (Millcorft Frosty Moon) is Redclyst Thomas the Rymer x Moon Bella of Millcroft

It has been mentioned by many people including the vet of all people, that I should show Billy, but at now 3 1/2 think that path is no longer open to us, he mainly picks up on a shoot now and I have fun training him to work ground.

Cheryl: not sure about good mates, more like a toleration by Billy of a young energetic whipper snapper. The pup has snuggled less than the fingers on one hand, but I'm sure they'll eventually have mutual agreement going LOL Charlie is so different in build to Billy at the same age it will be interesting to see them grow up.

Thank you for the return comment, they are really a superb pair,

the idea of going on the shoot is exciting, How is it organised and what do you have to do to prepare a dog to be competent.

do you have gun control laws as we do in australia? i am not sure how gun dogs are used and trailed in the field here now.

maybe some one can answer my question.

thank

graham.

Gun laws are really strict here, and I don't have one. I started out training him via a small gun dog training group run by by dog trainer (we were invited), but they only trained retrievers and spaniels. I found it nigh on impossible living in the south of UK to find pointer better trainers and so tried to develop that aspect myself. We are not perfect in that Billy doesn't point, but we have fun. I go on a rough shoot as either a beater or pickers up and intend to work hard with setting with Charlie in order to develop the natural 'point' now that I know a little more about what to do :-)

Hi again

what is a rough shoot. Is it an actual shoot and what type of game involved?

a pickers up I guess is someone who picks up the spoils.

Hi - here's a link to explain the UK type of game shoot http://www.basc.org.uk/en/departments/game-and-gamekeeping/game-sho...
