Bike Chasing

My setter has just started chasing bikes and barks furiously at them and the owners.  He does look quite fierce when doing this and most people get angry and try and kick him.  There have been a…Continue

Has anyone ever used something called ANAL GLANDZ which is brought from America to help your dog empty his anal glands. Can't find it in the UK.

Hi Christine
Welcome to this site! I see you've joined the Behaviour Group - I'm member there too but I'm afraid that group does not seem to be very active. Behaviour issues are usually discussed on the main site and all join in.
Have fun!

Hi Christine, thanks for the friend request!! Would love to hear all about Riley, how old is he? My three are a real handful sometimes being all boys and all fairly young but they are all spoilt to death in a nice way lol!!

Hi Christine, yes have been reading your thread about bike chasing...mmm....i agree with most things the others say about putting riley on the lead at the moment but that does not solve the problem of course.this is something mine, fortunately don't do, we live in a very rural area so they are used to bikes, runners, horses and deer but funnily enough where we walk, cows are freely grazing and two of them will bark and bark at the cows for some reason, they don't chase, just bark. We tend to put one of the barking ones on the lead and then the other one is not quite so brave!!! I certainly think there is such a thing as the terrible twos for dogs!! we enlisted the help of a behavourist just recently as my boys had decided it was quite fun to "gang up" on other dogs and be really scary as there were three of them. the guy reassured us that they were not agressive just being boys as they are all quite young, he also told us that dogs will be a problem aged 2yrs, 4yrs and 6yrs ( we had one 2yr old and two 4yr olds!) due to hormones and pack hierachy. fortuntely for us it took very little to regain our role as leaders and all is calm at the moment. a professional may well be able to give you help and things to try as it does sound as if something has triggered this behaviour so might be worth looking for someone. I wish i could be of more help, all i can say is they do grow out of these things and then usually find something else to keep us on our toes!! Do hope you find a solution and will be watching to see what others suggest. Love chris xx

Hi Christine, for some reason I can't reply to your message so I will put it on here instead...

Hi Christine,
We live in southcote just off the A4, we normally walk Ziggy in Prospect park and sometimes down the river off of circut lane, I will only take him on the lead in the park as I find he can be a bit unprdictable and I am a bit worried about the main road but my hubby just lets him off to have a good run and he is better behaved with him, my hubby says there are not many bikes in the park but he does go mid morning about 10ish or about 8ish in the evening.
We do take ziggy down the river and he just loves to run through the fields and the holybrook.
Ziggy is just 20 months old and full of energy and keeps us all on our toes,
How are you getting on with Riley????

Sarah
