I live in South Florida and I am married with no kids, unless you count my setter as a child! I am a true dog lover and can't bare to think about my life without my dog. There's nothing like that unconditional love that a dog gives no matter what! Growing up I always had a dog of small to medium size. When I got married my husband (who had an Irish Setter in the past) told me that once I have a big dog I'll never want a small/medium sized dog again and he was right. There's nothing like putting my arms around a big dog.

Hello Debra, I too have had Irish setters for about the same time as you, although I'd longed for one since a small child. Yes, they're definitely your furkids mine are too!!
When I saw the photos of your Irish I wondered if you lived in the States as he (I hope he is correct?) seemed a big boy and it appears the States have the old fashioned big Irish....lucky you. My boys a rescue but quite big unfortunately don't know much about he's breeding ( he's the absolute love of my life....and hmm husband and kids too!!!). My girls Grand Dad is from your home country! Enjoy ES, it's wonderful talking to others far and wide with the same love :0)). Take care Dianne and Red kids x

Glad to be your first ES friend Debra.... It is lovely having an ES friend so far away that you might very well meet one day...you just never know.
Do you have plans for a big Christmas or maybe a nice peaceful one? We are having Christmas under an old oak tree in the paddock this year with our families fur babies which make 17 when they get together!! Our three adult children own Newfoundlands, I'm the only one with Irish and duck dogs called a Murry River Retriever. Our Shelby the retriever has cancer and I pray it's not her last Christmas (she's 10) and are making it extra special for her :0)
Have a very special Christmas too Debra, with your family and beautiful big Irish boy and a safe 2014. Look forward to sharing many setter stories. Till then take care. Dianne, Flame and the "wild Irish roses" Ruby & Poppy x
