I'm entering Merlin in Western Australia's biggest agricultural show (like a state fair) at the start of October and want to display some information about the breed. I believe we are the only Irish…Continue

Hi Helen,

Welcome to the club.  I have had Irish Setters for 29 years - they are full of life

for the first 2 -3 years and then they will settle - they are the sweetest dogs I

have ever owned and they are very intelligent if you work with them.  Would

love to see a picture of your baby.   I am getting another Setter in early

November - a brand new baby - can hardly wait - take lots of pictures

because they grow quickly.

Welcome Helen, I was wondering how long it would take you to join in.  I look forward to seeing pics of Merlin.  I see a couple of Merlin's litter mates here too!  cheers, Cheryl

Just had a look through your photos - Merlin is looking great!  How did your first show go?

Cheers,

Hi Helen

Letting Merlin and JJ catch up would be great.  From the photos, they look very similar.

A big move and a new adventure!

Posted on April 1, 2015 at 1:00pm 7 Comments

We have some big news. Merlin and I have moved. And not just down the road, or across the country. More like . . . across the world! We have moved from sunny Perth, Western Australia, to not-so-sunny Scotland. I'd love to say "to Perth, Scotland", but no, we are much further north, and west, than that. Actually, about as far north-west as you can get while still being on the mainland!…

An Obedience Title for my Irish!

Posted on December 16, 2014 at 12:19am 5 Comments

I am VERY proud to announce that Merlin has just achieved his novice obedience title ('CD', in Australia), with two 3rd places amongst his three passes.

It wasn't all smooth sailing - we failed quite a few trials (mainly due to lack of focus) before deciding to take a break, come up with some new training techniques and let him grow up a bit. I'm not sure which bit worked, but we started trialling again last month and passed three consecutive trials to get his…

Perth Royal Show 2014

Posted on October 3, 2014 at 10:00pm 2 Comments

Another year, another Royal Show . . . and sadly another one with only one Irish entered. At least we were there to share this wonderful breed with the public.

After sleeping through most of last year's show and completely destroying the Irish reputation for being energetic and sociable, Merlin was much better this year. He spent most of the day getting pats from people of all ages and getting his photo taken. There was just one brief nap during mid afternoon, which everyone agreed…

Happy Birthday Solasdas kids!

Posted on June 9, 2014 at 1:00am 1 Comment

Happy Birthday to Merlin, Jay, Bess, Memphis, Maolisa and all their brothers and sisters. Hard to believe it's been 3 years since you came into our lives!

It's been a busy year for Merlin and I, with lots of fun and new friends, but also 3 titles achieved this year. He completed his Endurance Test last June, his Rally-O Novice title last month and his show Champion title yesterday. We're aiming for some obedience and agility/jumping titles for next year! Would love to get some…
