I would like to talk with you (email or phone) about hunting Irish Setters that are smaller and less hair/feathering than show type setters.

We just lost our 9-year old Flat-Coated Retriever, Bridger, to hemangiosarcoma (first symptoms showed up May 29, died in my office June 13). It was a real shocker. He was the best, smartest, and friendliest dog we ever had. He excelled as a family pet, hiking and fishing companion, and grouse dog! And, he was very laid back in the house – never jumped up against anyone in or out of the house!

While we absolutely love the FCR breed, both of us think we should get a smaller dog as we get older (easier to lift, travel with, etc.). The 4 breeds we may consider are: small Gordon Setter, small Irish/Red Setter, Small Munsterlander, and a Chatham Hill Retriever (a non-purebred cross between a Flat-Coated Retriever and a Cocker). Please tell me a little about your small Irish Setters. What is the normal weight and height of a full-grown male? What about coat/feather length and shedding?
