About Me:
I acquired my first setter in April, 2009 - Slievemish Summa Lightening "Fionn". He was bred Ms A Riley, under the Slievemish prefix, and my love of the Red Dogs was born. Fionn was, and still is, the most wonderful of dogs; respectful, fun-loving, affectionate, and just the best companion anyone could ask for. Fionn is a testament to Anneliese's careful and responsible breeding programme. He's got it all, great temperament, good health, and true to the working lines of the breed. Together we have enjoyed many dog sports; agility, tracking, and retrieving, we even braved the show ring a few times.
When I decided that he (and I) were ready to get him a companion, another red, Beautiful Burglar Bailey joined our pack. As there were no Slievemish puppies available at that time I sourced Bailey from another registered kennel. Bailey was probably the most affectionate dog I've ever owned - and the most challenging! Together we learned a great deal about how to overcome behavioural and health issues, but his wonderful exuberance for life more than made up for that.
Two border collies were added to our pack over the years, both from the same kennel, and while they were very different in temperament to the Reds, they have been no less important to me. Sadly, I lost one of my collies last year due to neurological issues, and just last month I lost Bailey to a short but ferocious battle with myeloma.
We are now on the hunt for another Irish to take over our lives, and possibly to try a little breeding in order to lift the breed profile on our side of the country, as setters of all types are not often found here. While still grieving the loss of my precious Bailey, I am excited to be embarking on another chapter of my life with the mad Irish!
