First started in Irish Setters back in the late 50s working with Joe Frydrich of Argo LaneKennels in Michigan. Currently an approved AKC judge for the three setters and an Al Breed Judte for the UKC.
NoLonter showing or breeding but still judging and stewarding.
You know Paul-Leo, training dogs for anything, you HAVE to go with their normal behaviour-pattern (or at least make the most of it) otherwise it becomes almost impossible!

Are you a show or fieldtrail-judge? As for working with dogs, I do believe that you can teach dogs anything...some just take a little bit longer catching on and some trainers are perhaps not good enough for all dogs :-) Or shall I say experianced.
Not so big complications for my gods. They got penicillin for three weeks, and you had to keep the spot clean and dry, and in one week it was gone. Sorry to hear about that poor dog, it must have been very painful.
Ahhhhh...french...read it for three years in school and when I actually got to Paris I ended up having to point at the space....to get a stamp. I was totally useless at it and have given it up and concentrated on english instead.
So how about this discussion-group of ours? Are you going to start a discussion?

Hi Paul, setter behavior is both learned and bred into them. I had 3 generations of Irish Setter bitches whose personalities were so much alike it was often difficult to tell which one was doing what! When I talked to the breeder of the oldest girl in my house, I found out that she was exhibiting the same personality traits as her predeccessors for at least 4 generations. So, that was 7 generations with the same personality traits. Yikes! When I talke to folks who have or have had Irish Setters related to my Annie, I have found that her personality traits are status quo with her siblings, half siblings, aunts, uncles, etc., etc. for at least several generations. She arrived at 8 weeks of age and was raised by a group of Irish Setters not related to her in any way. She did not pick up any of their personality quirks at all, she was always an individual in the herd.

Hi Paul, how about asking me to be a friend, since you've never answered my request I sent you, weeks and weeks ago. Check at the top of your home page and look for the little envelope and little person. Click on the little person to see request to be friends, and envelope is emails.
