Coppersheen Coalville Lad - International, Swiss & German Champion -
also known to his friends as Glen, has had a fabulous start to trialling in the UK!
It all started in 2009 when Glen and I were able to take part in Peter & Geraldine O'Driscoll's training weeks for pointing breeds in February near Kelso. In 2010 we returned for the KC training weekend…

I had long dreamed of taking Glen training on Grouse... this dream finally came true.
Glen and I took part in the Training Weekend for Pointing Breeds organised by the Kennel Club in the Yorkshire Dales. We had an unforgettable two days. I had originally hoped to get a few days training in prior to the event but the Grouse further North had suffered severely due to the harsh winter so no prior training…

Yesterday we had to say our final goodbye to dear Shannon. She happily munched her last biscuit and quietly went to sleep. We know it was the right decision but it is very quiet in our house just now. Shannon always knew how to make her presence felt and heard;-)

The SPCS (Setter & Pointer Club Suisse) ran 4 days trials from Nov 19th to 22nd. Glen 'Coppersheen Coalville Lad' was entered in 'Couple' (brace) on the first two days. Day one he found and pointed a hen pheasant in the reeds but could not produce and the judge put up the bird instead. Day two he ran with a Gordon and both dogs had excellent points on wild pheasant.
20 dogs ran, 4 were placed and Glen was one of them with grading 'Very…

Instead of visiting the ISAE Championship show this year Glen and I spent two days at the Field Trials of the Irish Setter Club Germany in Bad Kreuznach. Day one it was a dry sunny day with a strong cold wind, day 2 was overcast with more cold and moist wind. Especially on Sunday the birds were scarce (or knew where to hide) and many good dogs did not get a chance to point.
I was thrilled with Glen's result on the Saturday, in the Field Trial Solo he was placed…

Thank you Caroline for publishing the full results!
It was a lovely show outside in a perfect enviroment and we had a beautiful sunny day, crowned by a 'Best Junior in Show' with 'Dillan' Coppersheen Daredevil.
We then spent a few days vacation nearby filled with a bit of field training for Dillan and Glen. Which was well worth the effort, as…

We knew it was not going to be easy...
By the end of the day not many of the 57 dogs entered (HPR breeds and Setters & Pointers) left with an award.
Glen was given three good runs and worked hard, but finally we got cheated by a clever pheasant that first 'legged it' in the sugar beet and then flushed behind him... The wind kept changing direction, the ground was dry and hard going for dogs and handlers and the pheasants refused to…

My setters have always enjoyed this search dog training and I find it an excellent way of keeping myself and dogs busy and active. We normally train in the forests but this time we were on more open ground so it was possible to take photographs.
