Home for Irish Setter Lovers Around the World
Every once in a while we have one of those episodes that are just bad luck. This time, it's Romã who is sufering trough it. The exact same thing happened last year to Pitanga, so I guess this year was Romã's turn... Who would have guessed that a thing that has a 0,1% chance of happening would happen to me....twice???
Romã woke up yesterday with no hunger, and feeling a bit under the weather, but with no fever or anything that would make me too concerned. This morning, she looked white as a paper and had a fever of 40ºC. I've seen this before, so I searched her for ticks, and found ONE, even thoug they currently have a very effective flea collar and a spot on. With such an agressive protection, every tick, flea and mosquito should be dropping dead as soon as they landed on their coats!
We rushed to the vet, and of course that ONE tick gave her Erlichia and now she has to go trough 21 days of antibiotics. Since this alone was not enough, her platlets are very very low, so there is a low risk for hemorragies, wich means I get to spend my entire weekend worrying, staring at her to make sure she is not bleeding from any place. At least her liver and kidneys are fine, and she is eating and drinking on her own, so she got to come home with me.
Hopefully, she'll improve in the next 24hrs and my concerns will be over. We'll be repeating her bloodwork next Tuesday to see how she is doing, and I'm hoping there are now complications until then.
I feel like we won a very bad lotery (twice)!
Get well soon,Roma!
So sorry Teresa. All the best for Roma!
