I have been a member for a while but have never blogged etc.

Wanted to share with everyone the birth of Bronte's beautiful puppies.

What a birthday present she had whats the chances of giving birth on your own birthday?

We had all been on tender hooks since the 3rd of September her date was the 5th but her temperature had come down and she was panting and very restless.

Its that old wives tale a watched pot never boils !!

Monday came and went

Tuesday came and went

Wednesday she spent the whole day attached to me shivering now and panting like mad. Everywhere I went she did too, hasn't wanted anything to do with her mum (me) for the last 9 weeks, so I knew that whelping was imminent, waiting for these puppies has been like waiting for Christmas when you were a kid.

At 2am early hours of Thursday morning she wanted to go out, so grabbed the torch and followed her round our garden which was not pleasant as it was chuffing freezing.

Finally got her to come in, she then jumped all over the sofa and leaked everywhere so I put her inn her whelping box and went into the kitchen to make a cuppa thinking it was going to be ages as she hadn't even been making any signs of contractions. My daughter shouted rushed in to find a brown slimy blob on the floor of her box. No cord no placenta and one very floppy pup mouth cleared, placed in a warm towel and tried to revive it, Bronte is not happy and is trying to get hold of it she licked it a few times, we then had to remove it as she then tried to eat it.

Hoping that the next one wouldn't be far behind we got organised. 2 1/2 and still no puppy and a husband panicking,  He rings the vet for some advice explaining what had gone on, wanted us then to take her down to the surgery. 10 minutes later she lies down and lifts her tail and another pup on the way. Hoping that this one was ok and stillborn like the first.  Gloves on ready in case we had to help

out, I had to help break the sac as she was too intent with breaking the cord. A boy and a big boy as well my daughter called him chunk.

30 minutes or so later another pup didn't even notice as we saw no abdominal contractions, a girl.

This is the pattern that went on until 10.35.

8 beautiful puppies, 3 boys and 5 girls I've never seen my husband so stressed, he said that he would rather go back to Afgan ??

Well for the first days we have stayed with her 24/7 so haven't had much sleep.

Kids have named the all as they didn't want to cal them puppy with the blue ribbon and so on.

Mum and pups doing really well had their first check up at the vets Monday and all's well. Now to register them with the KC but in here lies the problem what do we call them especially seeing as there's only a certain number of letters you can have?? Wish me luck as that's my task for tomorrow.

Poor thing she's cream crackered !!!

Look out for updates as they all grow up.
