Billy - our now 16 moth old setter

Our first time with an irish setter, had him from 2 months old.   Refuses car travel and shys away from our cars.   Tried lots of remedies and ideas.  Can only walk him in an enclosed area due to his very very poor recall - he is highly intelligent, mum was a champion in working trials. Would love some advice.

How is he responding to his other training ?  How does he react in the house ?  Smart dogs are very good at bending the rules :)   What have you tried so far ?    a lot of questions I know, but helps to give a picture of how he responds to you.
