Home for Irish Setter Lovers Around the World
All dogs dig even Gizmo sometimes, believe it is part of the dog's nature,
suspect that it originated from the dog's ancestors.Usually, there is a reason
for dog digging, example, it is really hot outside, moist soil provides good
coolness to a warm belly.
Here are some proven tips that really work, if you want your garden with
beautiful flowers alone from the Irish Setter "mole" :)
Tip 2
If your setter dig in your garden.
Take a stock of pine cut it up into bite sized pieces. In the bark, insert the goodies
that you know your dog likes or smells sour and good in your dog's nose.
Then out of the stock-pieces in the garden, preferably not in among your flowers,
then let your dogs look for treats. A distraction and brain teaser.
Tip 3
When it is hot outside, for example, in the summer so
can freeze marrowbone or other dog treats in small
plastic buckets of water, your dog gets an ice cream and toy.
Tip 1 If you wonder where it's so you can find it in comments on the image Gardener Gizmo :)
Thanks for the tips Stefan, I love the ice cream one .... I am sure that something will help to reduce the "green" thumb moments of Mac :-)
Kasia has just started to dig her first holes in the garden. I'll try your tips:-)
That distraction tactic sounds interesting. Molly here digs after moles....turns them around right after they come under the fence and back into the neighbors yard ( much to their dismay). Her other digging we tried two ways to discourage her first year with us....just buried a pit of her yard leavings in her favorite hole which was getting too close to buried utility for our liking and she avoided it like the plague. The hole she started next to the patio I just sprayed it with vinegar water and poof she stopped digging except for her moles. Never could understand why I could never get one of my Irish to dig where I wanted them to....like early spring churning up of my flower bed so I could plant things easier! We have neighbors who bury treats in a kids sandbox for their two Labs to discover....wee bit messy but they do have fun.
