Fit at old age competition for all breeds in Switzerland 5th of May 13, a celebration of the fit old dog!
This year two of my Girls took part in the competition at Langnau i E. The very old Oldie "Joy"fearnley Grace who will be 15 in some weeks and the rather Young Oldie "Donna" Thendara Donnatella, who will be 10 also in a few weeks.
Joy did it again- she was placed 1st in the categorie of the oldest Dogs; Dogs over the age of 13.
She is as her name says it- an absolute joy in every sense of the word and her still great movement and her ever wagging tail brought her the first place- we are blessed to have this once in a life time Girl for so long.
Donna who sadly has severe back problems wasn`t placed but really enjoyed the day and all the attention!
In the morning the dogs are tested by a vet, than on a small walk there are several stopps were the Dogs are tested again; for example; if they still Play, if they are attentive, have a good realtionship with the owner, how they hold themselves, than if they still hear, can smell, if they can find their way around obstacles and in the afternoon the ones with the most points collected go to the main ring where they walk,and trott and run till the winners are announced!

A wonderful event for the oldies, celebrating long and healthy lives. As you say in your post also a bittersweet event, tinged with sadness that some will not be there next year...
