I'm really ashamed to present you the best bitches from the french championship. The CACIB went to the bitch from the left ( 4 years) !!!!!!
No comment or .....
We can certainly discuss this at our next show committee meeting! The main Club is mostly run by working dog people but even they should not be happy with this result(But I could be wrong!!) I'm sure we can send them the photo and see what they have to say! The show committee is a small part of the Irish Red Setter Club!!!! I am sure Trudy would have more insight on this topic as she has had more years working with the hunting side of the club than I have!!?
It seems quite obvious that the French judges have not read the Irish Red Setter standard as set by the Irish Kennel Club and adopted by the F.C.I organization of which France is part of;
Also they don't seem to realize that a Dog Show is a Beauty exhibition!!
Though they do say that 'Beauty is in the eye of the Beholder' but here in this case the 'Beholder' (judge) needs his eyes examined as although this poor little dog might be a good worker in the field but is ever so slightly lacking the qualities necessary in the Show Beauty Ring;
Perhaps the standard has not yet been translated into French for these poor judges?
Unfortunately, I think Carmel is right, I'm not sure, that the main club will desaproove this picture.
According to the red club, the Irish club would agree with their interpretation of the standard...
Thanks a lot for your help
I went to the championnat last year in Lyon. Those who have not looked at the photos then can stil do on the following link http://pikica06.moj-album.com/album/13161170/
I went in support of the breeders over there who have a very hard time battling with the Red Club. There were others there who are on the list and an Irish judge, so things went a bit different than this year. I will never forget the horrified expression on the face of the judge when he saw what came into the ring...
I am planning to do some shows in France again after our upcoming litter leaves. perhaps there are others willing to do the same? I think every little gesture helps and gives encouragment.
I have to say that these two bitches are an absolute disgrace. However, I was not surprised when I saw who the Judge was.
He & I had a "difference of opinion" some years ago when I was judging in Belgium. He did not like my Irish Red & White Setter BOB winner. He thought she was too big, too broad, too much all over. She was actually a very nice bitch, medium size, beautiful type and quality and very sound. I told him that she was an excellent example of the breed, but he completely disagreed. He was comparing her to the Irish Red Setter Standard. I explained that the R&Ws had their own Standard, but he showed me the breed standard he was using. It was the Red Standard. He was quite rude about the whole thing. It made no difference when I told him that I was from Ireland and bred both breeds. Until recently they considered them both as the same breed. I find it difficult to understand why the FCI allows the French Red Club to do their own thing. Surely, as an organisation, all Countries should abide by the Standard of the Country of Origin.

I have added my thoughts to the guestbook of the IrishRedSetterClub website!! There is no way of adding the photo there but I shall send that to them via e-mail!!
But Cecilia already the 'Red Club' does not respect the size standard set down by the Irish club and that is one point only - by doing this the 'Red Club' does not respect the F.C.I standard either!!
Surely something can be done by either the FCI or the Irish Red Setter Club in Ireland, to ensure that this club follows the official breed standard?
Or perhaps it would be better to have a new club in France that will be willing to use the true standard?
