Home for Irish Setter Lovers Around the World

Hi everyone. This is Vikra. She is a four year old English Setter who was left into Longford Dog Pound through no fault of her own, (in my opinion). She has a lovely temperament and is used to children. Unfortunately she is deaf.

She has been removed from the Pound as they do could not see any chance of rehoming her and she would have been put to sleep.

The reason she was left in the pound by her family, was that she was fast asleep in her basket, when a child ran in and jumped on her. Naturally Vikra jumped up, but snapped. She did not connect with the child, luckily, but the owners were not willing to take a chance.

I am sure that Vikra would make a lovely pet, in an adult household, where they are aware of her condition and can deal with it accordingly.

oh trudy hope this young girl gets the home she deserves poor thing.its so sad when you hear stories like this its just so natural for the dog with disabilities of this kind to react to that sort of situation.i know first hand because of laylas disability she has not turned on anybody but is quite  startled if someone whose voice she  doesnt recognise or someone shes not familiar with goes up to her and touches her.we now have collar covers and a bandanna tellin of her blindness so people think twice before approaching her.

it breaks my heart reading stories like this but with the right understanding people who are willing to give her a home im sure she will lead a happy life

Oh bless her, people are so horrible and not at all understanding at times. She reminds me so much of Boss the little guy I rehomed earlier in the year. I really hope you find a great home for her.XX

Do you have any contact details or website for the pound?  Someone that lost one of my oldies is desperate for another, she keeps trying the rescues but there is nothing about, she emailed me again only yesterday to see if I had any news.

Many thanks

I hope you find a home , geez people piss me off sometimes, I wonder if the child got a reprimand, and told not to do that again , it's just easier to dump the the dog  no value for its life

We had a deaf border collie she was no real problem she learnt to look up when we stomped on the floor twice her nick name became two stomps

Hi Sheree,
Vikra is safe now in kennels, in Northern Ireland. Transport to the UK can be arranged for the right home. It would be so great to find a home for her. She is a little pet. You should contact Dorothy Park at 07808865708.

Many thanks for that Trudy, I've passed on the details and will let you all know as soon as I hear anything back.  I've got everything crossed that we can make both Vikra and my friend very happy.

Sheree I am so happy to read that there may be a possibility with your friend!!!! Fingers crossed it will work. I must admit I am very upset when reading something like that and I do have primitive criminal instincts against this type of people like Vikra previous owners, I cannot believe someone can be so stupid and unconsiderate.. My oldi was deaf for at least 7 years (it started gradually at the age of 6 until his death) and he was extremely nervous and distressed about his situation at the beginning... hence some snapping too. When our new redhead addition arrived, little by little, the young one became the ears of my oldi who could relax better, but in between my oldi had developped extra sensorial abilities. This is to say that being deaf is not a problem as long as we also adapt to it. Even being deaf they can still hear some special sounds or vibrations. Good luck beautiful Vikra.

I really hope that this beautiful girl finds a wonderful forever home.  She certainly deserves it.

I too, cannot understand some people & get very upset when I hear stories like this.  Sometimes it is easier to just abandon their dog, rather than to discipline their children, who, should have known not to jump on a sleeping dog.  I'm sure that poor Vikra was very frightenened as most dogs would be.  It would be wonderful if this worked out with Sheree's friend.   I will keep all paws crossed for her.

Thank you all very much. Vikra's future is now secure. She is travelling down from Northern Ireland to Dublin With Dorothy Park and Jane Hough, who has looked after her, today. I will collect her this afternoon and deliver her to the transport contact at Dublin Docks and she will be on her way to the UK and her new home tonight. A very lucky little girl.

This is all thanks to Exclusively Setters, so take a bow folks.

Oh that is such good news, I haven't heard back from my friend but I know she'll be pleased and sad.  I think I will ask her to contact Dorothy anyway and make her aware, just incase another poor sould needs a home.
