I wanted to get back to you on your message dated Dec 29th concerning structure and movement - I greatly appreciated it and found it fascinating reading. Sadly the discussion has been stopped.
I see your knowledge comes from a very valid background having worked & trained horses. Where can I see pictures of the dogs you refer to?
Pictures of Milson O'Boy are found in the Thompson books about Irish Setters. The best moving Irish I've ever seen in over 40 years lives just 20 miles from me now. He will be 10 this month. His photos are found in the memo from past National Specialty show wins. 2001, at barely 2 years of age, his first AOM, 2002 he was BOS, 2003 he was Best of Breed, 2004 another AOM, 2005 another AOM. Sully is the only Irish Setter in the history of the ISCA National Specialty show to have won that many honors in straight National specialties. Others have won BOS or BOB twice, but none have the equivalent 5 years straight National honors. I can send you a self stacked snapshot that I took of Sully in Oct. 2004 in Pleasanton, CA in the Sporting Group ring. He was 3rd in Group that day if memory serves, also has several all breed BIS's, won over 30 Specialty BISS's wins in his career. Just email me your regular email address and I'll send you a photo of Sully. His niece's photo is on my photo pages here, Slaysett Southern Gem or Garnett. Her dam is Sully's litter sister and a BISS, BOB winner in her own right. There are probably other photos in Connie Vanacore's book The New Complete Irish Setter, if you have that edition, I'll look up photos and give you page numbers to search. My new computer doesn't have all of the photos on it that I had on my old one and they weren't transferrable unfortunately. I have a few on floppy drives but I haven't tried to download them onto this computer yet.

Thanks Barbara,
I have photos of Milson O'Boy in 'this is the irish setter'
I also have 'The Official Book of the Irish Setter' - but no Slaysetts there. But I did find two pictures of Sully on the net. However, not being accustomed to the american type, there is just a bit too much of him allround for my taste. Still, its a shame I can't see him moving.

Thanks, I love her type which is why I purchased her daughter, Maddie. I usually like a little shorter length of hock but she has the length of stifle to carry a longer hock so that's okay too. It's the brick on brick headpiece, laid back shoulder and smooth topline along with the nice front angles that grabs my eye and heart. Sweet temperaments too, can't ask for better.
Hi Barbara! No offence meant! You really had me guessing there... I've never heard or seen this kind of light pigment (nose & eye?) in Irish Setters. Is this possibly a dilution factor in the colour gene similiar to yellow labs that a genetically brown - meaning they can not form black pigment?
Thanks Barbara!
Even more surprising then, if this was an outcross breeding. As you say she will be a wonderful pet & obedience dog and nothing wrong with her at all. So I've learnt something new again:-))
best regards
Susan
Barb,
I believe you sent an email to me meant for someone else that you met at the OKC show. I'm always glad to hear from another Texan....hope you link up with the person intended.

Hi Ann, well, I'm still showing my Borzoi. My red and white girl Traveler is currently in N. CA with her breeder being shown at some outdoor shows. I've been showing the puppy girl Dori here in N. TX but she's going to stay home for a few months to mature. I brought an 18 mo old male Borzoi and a nearly 2 year old female Borzoi back from CA with me the end of Feb. this year. I'm going to start showing them at the local KC show over Mother's Day weekend. My lone Irish, Garnett, had a rough winter with her rheumatoid arthritis. She had to wear a blanket coat even indoors to keep her back nice and warm. I think we have her thyroid leveled out finally, it's only taken us 3 years! She thinks the Borzoi are lots of fun unless they gang up on her! Other than that, just hanging in there, taking care of the furkids and working part time. My last rescue foster was a male Irish who was a digger. It was nice getting him placed within a week of coming to stay with me too. Had to put him on a tie out chain to keep him in the yard, he'd dig out and then dig back under my next door neighbor's fence! Silly dog. Hope you're doing well too.
I know its been ages since I've posted. Well after many different vet opinions and none of them knowing exactly what Luke has (all his tests came back negative) , they have started treating him for Valley Fever. He has been on the medicine for a while now and is much much better. I happy that he feels so much better and say my prayers that him and all my animals stay healthy. Thank you
