Ellie suddenly became lame on her right hind leg on the Thursday before Christmas. She couldn't walk and was obviously in a lot of pain. She had had a couple of interdigital cysts on that foot and they were fading but this was horrible. All the pads of her foot were swollen and it ,(looked at from underneath),was about twice the size of the other foot I got her to the vet's and he was very worried. There appeared to be no infection nor the usual red soreness of cysts. He said that in any other dog he would think it was a tumour but with Ellie's history he was not sure.He treated her with an antibiotic injection,in case there was an infection and a pain killer injection.I also had some drugs for the pain and some oral antibiotics.I took her back on Saturday morning and the foot had reduced slightly and she was not in pain but uncomfortable. She went back again on Christmas Eve and I was advised,as she was now out of pain and was walking, to keep on giving her antibotics and the painkillers. She is quite happy walking now but her foot is still about the same size and Joan and I have spent Christmas worrying about her.My vet said he was available at any time  if we were concerned and she couldn't cope again.

She is eating well and wants to go for walks but they are,of course, much shorter than usual.

She is at the vet's in the morning and I expect he will want to do further tests as this is not typical of her feet with cysts.

Arthur is concerned about her and has been very quiet when with her.

So sorry to hear about Ellie, hope they're able to diagnose and treat soon. So worrying!

I am so sorry To hear Ellie has been unwell always harder around Christmas time when we need our vets. Please let us know how you get on with Rllens next appointment. We send our love you way. Take care thinking of you, Dianne and Irish x

Nothing really has changed, her foot was not so swollen when I saw the vet and he is seeking further advice on the problem elsewhere. However half way through her short walk yesterday she started limping and her foot was swollen really badly.I had checked before we went out and it seemed unchanged,By the time I got back home, which was about half an hour later(Arthur had a run round with some dog friends) her foot was back down, and hasn't swollen badly again.Whatever is going on is odd.I will be on the 'phone to my vet on Monday.

Thank you for the kind words and I hope 2013 will be a good year for all of us.

Hi Howard, sorry to hear about Ellies swollen pad, it is a worry when they are not well, hopefully your vet will have it sorted soon.(",)
