Hi fran Thanks for the post. I cant see the date of the article in the link. When was it published? It is known that there was a huge scandal of aflatoxin in dog food in 2005/2006 then reported as late as 2010.. it led to recall many products..is this article referring to those cases or there is something new more recently? We dont use dry food, but I wish to know to be able to put the information in the right contest..thanks!! Silvia

Hi Silvia.  Yes I too ave known about these toxins from some time. In fact, years ago, I had some dried food for my dogs which was imported from the U.S and that was contaminated. This article is the latest newsletter from Dogs Naturally, however, I don't know how old their sources are, but I believe this is an ongoing risk, from what a skin specialist based at Cambridge (UK) told my friend when she queried the safety of dried food, She was concerned about feeding her GSD a prescription diet which her GP vet had recommended, and the skin specialist told her there was indeed a risk of aflatoxins forming.

thanks fran, ok. I am not a fanatic of dry food in fact, but i think many people rely on it sometimes so it would be important to know if there is another wide spread of toxins (and in which brands !) or if it is the usual `alert` that those things are found in processed stuff.. the magazine doesnt mention this in fact.. oh well, thanks a lot in any case! s

To be on the safe side, when I am out of freezer space, or away from home, I feed my dogs Nature Diet, or Forthglade, which is cooked, but not dry extruded, that way it minimizes the risks. There are also some other nice one's like Natures Menu too. However, that's my preference, what other people do with their dogs is entirely up to them.  Glad the information has helped people to make an informed choice :-)
