I have posted before about Ellie's interdigital cysts which she gets on a regular basis but less frequently now she is taking Atopica.

I would appreciate some advice as my vet now thinks that a cause could be that ,when she had a hysterectomy through having pyometra, some ovarian tissue may have been left behind.

My vet has not suggested any action on this as ,I suspect, he may be wary of his practice having to pay should the hysterectomy prove not to have been done properly. It was carried out by a locum vet who left the practice  a long time ago.

Joan and I have thought hard about this and using some of our records realise that she has a severe occurance of cysts about every six months which last for about ten days. The last bad episode was last month when she had five cysts on one foot and as they went others appeared on her other feet. They have all gone now.She also has a greatly enlarged lymph node  on her  right hind leg which appears at the same time.We have never associated this with  a 'season' although we have noticed the male dogs become interested in her at these times. There is no discharge.

We are at a loss whether to ask for scans to be done and whether ,if some ovarian tissue is found,to proceed with an operation.Ellie is eight years old but looks very much older as her ill health has tolled upon her.

What would others on here do?

Thank you

Howard

Have you tried homeopathic remedies? Whereabouts are you ? I would try hepar sulph 30c or graphites and then silica 6c or consult a homeopathic vet.

Hi Howard,

The only way I can think of to find if there is ovarian tissue left is by doing a dosage of her sexual hormones. that should be the safest way to figure it out, because all they need is to draw some blood. However, even if there is ovarian tissue left behind, I personally don't think I'd allow my dog do go through surgery all over again, because it's a little bit like finding a needle in a haystack!

I'd look for some other way to treat her cysts, Catherine has suggested homeopatic remedies, maybe that could work?

I really hope you can find a solution for your poor girl!

Thank you for the replies.I shall be talking to my vet about further investigation.

The homeopathic route is not one I will take but I do appreciate the information.
