Had a 1/2 Irish, 1/2 golden retriever for 15 years, starting in 1987. When she died, we grieved for 6 months, then got a Gordon setter. We adopted Ruby, our Irish red and white setter 10 months after that. So I've had a setter of some kind almost contiuously for 23 years. We also have fostered many Irish setters over the last 6 or so years, helping them through the transition from unhappy situations to their perfect forever homes. It's heartbreaking to give them up, but we couldn't take any more if we adopted one, since we live in the city and 2 dogs with an occasional foster is about all we can handle.

Hi Jim, Yes B-day on display on ES, thanks for your b-day wishes too!!!
I was thinking of you Jim because you cannot keep all the puppies of course, but it must be a nightmare to let them go, even if we know they are going to a very friendly and loving family... but hopefully for you the worse is done now and from now on you will only have the pleasure to meet your big babies at your/their place, at the vet, on a walk, etc.. and marvel at how fantastic they become... :-)
Saying that, glad I am not in your shoes... :-(
What about to organise a b-day party every year with all your babies? :-)))
What an horrible experience indeed... how did you escape the heart attack???? so happy that all went well at the end, but what an experience!!!! a big cuddles to all your babies, old ones and young ones.... :-)
