Home for Irish Setter Lovers Around the World

Cleaning up old pictures, it appeared I’m celebrating a centennial in Irish setters.

Fifty years ago me (around four years) and my brother Wim emptied our saving boxes and bought Rex. His mischief inspired me to write as a kid plus making pictures, books are still there. That is why I have to thank my Irish setters because that inspiration lead to my daily bread (reporter now editor) lifelong plus interest for their history teacher of –under more- history (never done too boring).

Idea is to celebrate this centennial by scanning pictures around themes. I’d like to know what you would appreciate before scanning. Like Rex and his many folowups, hunting, falconry, trials, shows, trips, favorite Irish in my youth (snapshots Hartsbourne, O’Cuchulain), kids & setters etc. You name I’ll scan it, add to personal page in a few off hours in weekends per theme you mention. Makes partying together!

Right. But I did my best, I wanted them to stand free without stacking like my favorite Ailean (Devils dearest) daughter from Derrycarne Harp. Alas after this she went tummy up that was our welcome scene. You should have seen the public - never more laughther was heard!!!

Whoopie great seeing my youngster Dana back Jean and Rita!!! Thanks Carmel for comments, it is walays nice to be resurrected after being shot:-)))

The date was August, 20th 1988 she was fifteen weeks old, judge was Piet Jacobs (Lowfield) from Belgium. A great report, especially about her movement. October 1994, she and all others here were shown last time. She got first excellent.

Her movement was an attraction, racing for horizons even better than pure field trial bred ones. Only once the old bunch was shown again in a field day, organized around change of millennium by the Irish setter club of the Netherlands but alas Dana was missing by that time, her halfsister Banshee still surviving.

Ursula I am searching, maybe somewhere.... I did manage huge showkennels already as a kid. But those with nearly no need to groom-types were my favorites.

Next Rex again, specially for Sharyn. First twelve years were without dogsports, Irish setter meant adventure only!!! But I see most are intrested in conformation, theres never published before snapshots here of O Cuchulain and Hartsbourne/Brackenfield (Eileen Walker and kennels plus Sybil Lennox ditto) here if someone likes it, I'll scan it! Just tell me. And yes Esther, I like it as well....works like a timemachine!!!

Parts of the Rex diary. Or better Rex reports.... What strikes me even now seeing it back, where he is in the huge grass and on sand (right above and under) now is the A28. Sitting and down left is near where main infrastructure hit my favorite youth grounds, bridges, canal, two main roads (A 50 as well). So this story tells about vanishing landscapes....
