Great pictures Susan thanks, it shows you enjoying not only your own setters but all of the event. In my eyes last is the price for everyone active in field events. Can you tell something on rules for this field trial?

Good to experience the committee of the Belgian club is active to promote field sports. The Irish Setter Club of Belgium provides a bridge for beginners to reach a level of CAC/CACIT trials. Maybe this might resurrect a Belgian national team for ...

Better late than never...congratulations Maria & Bengt!!! Is it a title for working or show? Well maybe we'll meet again to celebrate it one lucky day!

Yes very confusing. The Dutch word for both is more logical: houtsnip (scolopax rusticola; E: woodcock; G: Waldschnepfe; F: Becasse des bois; S: Morkulla) and watersnip (gallinago gallinago; E: common snipe; G: Bekassine; F: Becasse des marais; S:...

I am always a bit confused when it comes to translating the french 'bécasse' and the 'bécassine' into either german or english. Look at this interesting site 'Bird Collection' I think the bécasse is a Woodock (german Waldschnepfe) and the bécassin...

Partridge wins European Championship Irish setters

French bred, owned and trained Irish setters dominated international spring trials held in Sarry, in the French champagne region. But the European championship was without winners

Prize-winners were under more Urtis de la Chaume di Rigault and Apache des Sorcieres du Sancy. Both were trialed and trained for their owners by French professional trainer Daniel Munini.

Three days of trialing in French fields around start of spring provided an event not only for competit… Continue

Henk, I agree the knowledge of the past helps understand the present. Goes for most things, not just dogs...
I admit I was impressed by Wim Wellens from NL who was judging in Switzerland last year. He had was allocated a trainee judge and was referring to 'Hartsbourne' and 'Wendover' type - to his surprise the trainee judge had no idea what he was talking about (ok, the trainee judge came from another pointing breed, but still you'd expect some interest..).
best regards

Hi Henk, must say I just loved reading the article about Florence Nagle! I have the book 'Misson Accomplished' and this interview just adds respect for a very grand lady.
Why not put the article at more prominence as a forum post - more people may read it.

Henk ,I was interested to hear that the Swedish Dog you used had a line from Rua in his breeding. Was this via Rua Cappriccio or via the background of FT Ch Rua Connemara of Porschet mated to Astraby's Athos (owned by Per and Tina Henriksen (who have returned to Sweden to live).

Thanks for your comment Henk, but I must admit the picture of Dairine working was taken by an unknown photographer and sent to me... I do think it captures the atmosphere very well. Don't we all know (and even enjoy!) these days out in the rain...
all the best with your reds in the coming trials

I am just a novice with dogs as Toby is my first but we seem to be getting on quite well. His first point was the one pictured on Partridge in Oct 07 and he was steady enough to flush three birds one by one which was a real surprise as I had only just started working training. He was two years old when I took him from bread rescue with little training done so it had taken most of my time to get him obedient. I hunt with a Red-tailed Hawk so he does point Rabbits. I have just returned from a 5 day training course near Kelso with Peter O'Driscoll were Toby did well pointing Pheasant, Woodcock and Snipe and he was steady to Hare. He scented Grouse but the birds were getting up 100M ahead of the dogs in deep snow on heather so I cannot claim a point. I would like to fly a Goshawk one day and maybe one day even a Falcon at Grouse but one step at a time. My focus at the moment is learning to work my dog and to try and help to promote IR&W's as a working bread by giving some time to the IR&WSC of GB working Sub Comity so any help and advice I can get is welcome.

Hi Henk, that's is the price we pay for agriculture modernization.Great, monocultural fields are not good environment for small game. Fortunately some paradises are still saved in southern part of Poland. By the way, I'd like to express my admiration for your commitment to preservation setter's original appearence and abilities.
