Irish beaten by pointers, but winning terrains

Pointers have beaten setters in the first field trial for youngsters, held by the Dutch Irish setter club in cooperation with the club for English setters on fields near Ijzendijke, Zeeuws Vlaanderen.

These were the last trials in Spring in the Netherlands. You can only score with points on partridge, pheasant does not count.

A class apart
Fieldjudge Ton Slager gave the first and second price to litterbrothers Denzo Dansk Dynasty (owner/trialer Sander de Heus) and Doede (Theo Kerklaan). They were according to the judge "a class apart" in these trials.

Still for some Irish setters, there was an honorable mentioning to stimulate the owners/trialers. These went to Craigrua Marty (Lisanne Mirck) and SpiralwoodField Maple (Christine van den Wijngaert), both red and whites.

Warm and friendly

Temperatures were high (around 22 degrees) providing a first real warm day in Spring 2008. It was held in a friendly atmosphere, participators enjoyed eachothers outings on fields.

Nearly everyone was present to congratulate winners during the finish with prices and a spoken report on all entries, enjoying a good glass as well.

Still a win

Although there were no qualifications for Irish setters, there was a win: the fact that the Dutch Irish Setter Club was able to hold for the first time this millennium trials for youngsters.

The owner of the terrains with an abundance of partridge and pheasant -becoming very rare in the Netherlands- Carlos de Dobbelaere said afterwards it can happen every year. Carlos is not a field trialer himself, but a practical hunter: he owns ten years old Elan O'Conloch.

As pictures in blogs are still distorted, I've posted them in my personal page. Adding videos failed - they were just above 100 MB. A faraway view by camera poor quality still providing an impression of Dutch trials - the style is Quete a l Francaise- is on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Alvyj7iCzZ8
