Partridge wins European Championship Irish setters

French bred, owned and trained Irish setters dominated international spring trials held in Sarry, in the French champagne region. But the European championship was without winners

Prize-winners were under more Urtis de la Chaume di Rigault and Apache des Sorcieres du Sancy. Both were trialed and trained for their owners by French professional trainer Daniel Munini.

Three days of trialing in French fields around start of spring provided an event not only for competition between trialers from Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland and France but sheer pleasure as well of meeting each other. This was focused by president. J.P. Gotti of the Red Club France, the organizing country www.redclub-france.com

Partridge wins

Alas March 22nd the day of the European championship brought contrary to preceding days conditions not ideal for blocking partridge, the only feathers to score on in spring under the system of the Quete a la Francaise.

Still most competing couples provided a festivity for the eye racing like swallows on four legs for horizons. There were no winners – so in a way partridge won.

Competitors were: Urtis de la Chaume di Rigault, Apache des Sorcieres du Sancy, Visky du Pied du Mont, Alpille des Sorcieres des Sancy (France); Vesper du Val du Loue, Alina von Kapellenpfad (Germany), Brisa’s Irishes, Enegar, Buck, Cane Rosse Isaco (Italy), Pallas Green Graton Lad, Pallas Green Ginney, Pallas Green Gina and Fay O’Conloch (the Netherlands).

Classic movie

All of the event was filmed by Luca from Italy. He also made a dvd on the EC 2008, published by the Red Setter Club of Italy with stunning music, showing all competitors. It is described as a classic already.

This was a spring with winter weather, when Vesper du Val du Loue (Anheuser) and Redwing White Lightning (mine) enter fields, a shower of hail dives down. The Semaine Setter Irlandaise and EC 2009 were more sunny.

Next European Championship (2010) is in Italy.

On www.redsetterclub.it you can see under Campionato_dEuropa_2008 some impressions of a year ago. As well same year on www.Iersesetter.com menu Born for Adventure.

A report on the Dutch team is in the April monthly Ierse Setter Klanken (Irish Setter Sounds) of the ISCN with pictures from other competitors.

Sheer joy

Sorry for not being able to film or photograph during the EC, like some of you asked. All my time was dedicated to a promising youngster, Fay, who did not meet partridge until a stay in France, growing spectacular in a weeks time, ending up in the EC-team. You can’t imagine what joy it provides to see this happen!!!! She’s gone now back to her owner, but no doubt returns for more.

Cheers groeten Grusse au revoir

Oh no, Henk, not just 2... pity you can't see the number of 'hits' ! I certainly enjoyed reading your blog. Sounds like your youngster really got going - hope the owner keeps up the good work!
