Just did these two illustrations for a job and thought that they explain quite clearly why my dogs dont get to sleep in my bed...yes I know, I drew the wrong breed...
Yes Ursula, I totally agree with you! Once or twice over the years we let one of our dogs to sleep on our bed(as he/she was slightly unwell! and we ended up on the floor .....so now they stay in their own very comfortable beds and we have a very good sleep in our own too!

Good picture! Except that your "Night 14" would have happened around 20 minutes into "Night 1" in this house LOL

I have three of them in the bed at night, and it's so fun to see them sleeping in that typical upside-down position you illustrated. Just love to have them next to me :-))) Not that much fun in the morning when they wake me up by stepping in my face, though :o))

Great illustration Ursula, I like it very much. It is one of the reasons why my Flora doesn't sleep on my bed.

Oh yes, I recognize Night 14... mine managed to lean with her back to me and somehow just push... I ended right at the very edge whilst she had the whole bed! So since those early days no dogs on beds here - except when certain dog-friendly visitors come to stay and insist they don't mind in the least if they have three dogs and two cats sleeping with them on a narrow single bed... but that is their choice!!!
