Hi Susan,
This is a great group. I'm sure you will have lots of fun here.
I have an Irish and an English Setter. We got them as baby puppies
together and they've now just turned 7. The light of my life.
Enjoy, and hope you can post some more photo's soon.
Hello Susan, We are a rather large family here on the site we dont all know one and other personally so it makes it nice making friends. You can also keep in touch with those you know also and may be lucky enough to meet.Enjoy this site it grows on you...
Hi Susan, and welcome, the site is great and it's so nice to be able to contact other owners who adore their setters...I also had a problem with my Abbi who was rather on the lean side..she has never been very interested in food...would rather be outside having fun..I found some interesting recipes on the internet..which I tried and have had great success with...they are definately worth a try..best wishes..sammi
Dear Susan,
If possible, try not to let the cost of medication/diagnosis affect your decision. I have friends who put their dog down in June because the med. she needed would be expensive and they are regretting it tremendously, as they can redo that decision and they miss her so much...
Dear Susan,
Sorry to hear of your problems with your boy , try to remain positive. My boys are both related to Michelle Websters boy Geordie, and we meet him at a show a few weeks ago and he is a picture of health, he has come through and so can Dublin Regards Neil
hi susan it does make sense ,by the sounds of it he has had a very bad reaction .i dont use dog shampoos for our dogs i dont know wether you can buy it but i use pantene pro v for normal hair on them and their coats are lovely .layla went to a new groomers a few months ago and they used their shampoo and she scrat and scrat and was full of big scabs.ive now started taking her to a kennels to have her groomed but i take my own shampoo.ive just started getting the one thats got conditioner in because shes started panicking now when shes bathed i think its with her been blind, she was not that bothered before but shes a little worse noe than she was.
our boxer lucy started yesterday morning shaking her head shes prone to ear infections so i bought some anti bacterial drops till vets open used them twice and her ears really bad so takin them with us when we go to vets.anyway susan im gonna have a look on google regarding your shampoo and hope for dublins sake it is that hes allergic to the shampoo and he never has another fit .regards and best of luck will keep in touch
lyn layla and lucy
hi susan, yes after emailing you i went thru google and i was quite shocked at the effects some of the hartz products have had on dogs and its very scary knowing just a little thing such as dog shampoo can trigger off such bad fits.i would personally wait to bath him again while youve been to see specialist and see what she recommends.i read your blog on that forum and the replies were amazing specially that lady that bathed her dog at work.
i can well fully understand you familys tears for the little darling, cos its been nearly 3 years since layla was diagnosed with "late" onset pra (she was only 2 when the proffesor who we saw said shed had for 18 months prior to him seeing her) and tears are still flowing.went back to see proffessor in april and shes totally blind now but seeing such a young dog is heart breaking.
back to your dublin i agree try and keep him off the medication (i think you are doing the right thing)until youve seen specialist and keep a log of him everyday if its just to say hes is normal self and keep me in touch of how he is please

oh dear susan i am so very very sorry about dublin.hope he can manage the medication ok and they will eventually subside.i can fully understand how you must be feeling these red darlings come into our lives and completely take over our hearts. taers will flow love they still do in our house after 3 years and the upsetting part about your dublin and my layla is that they are only young dogs and "it shouldnt be happening to them"
hope you dont mind if i keep in touch every few weeks to see how you are both doing
love and regards
lyn
