hi there,
was wondering how many of you clean your IS with toothpaste?
i have had dogs all my life and never done it, all my guys had lovely white teeth to the end. is it a gimmik to make us spend even more money on our dogs or does it really help. hope to be getting an IS pup soon and have to keep up with the times!!
cheers Rosie

Rosie, I have never used toothpaste either, I rely on marrow bones and pigs ears to keep my dogs teeth clean. However I was told by a terrier lady that plaster (the knid that you buy in a roll with a rough surface) wrapped round a finger and dipped in Smoker's toothpaste works a treat.
Many give their dogs products such as Plaque-Off to loosen the plaque. I don't know how effective that is.
But if all your dogs have lovely white teeth then it seems whatever you are doing at the moment seems to work so I would stick with that.
Hi all,
i am glad that most of you like me leave it to natual ways. my old lady had beaut teeth till the day we lost her last year. she never ate a bone in her life would just bury them under the cushions on the lounge or out the garden but loved the vegitarian pig ears and the like, so my new pup will be brought up the same way.
thanks to all of you.
cheers Rosie
I use toothpaste on my cocker whenever I clean her teeth. Everytime there is some plaque I open her mouth, remove it all by scraping it off, clean her mouth and finally brush her teeth with a bit of toothpaste. I do this every two os three months and it works - plus its a meat flavoured toothpaste, so she loves it =)
Pitanga and Romã get their teeth cleaned once in a while, more to get them used to it. They have also tried the toothpaste and liked it, but I don't use it on them to brush their teeth, at least so far. I guess as the years go by we'll see!
