Exclusively Setters

Home for Irish Setter Lovers Around the World

Sadly I don't have much information just I know of a young Irish Setter who was given to someone who could no longer keep him.

I have what little information from another dog forum and if I'm honest I don't know how much of this is correct as its all very third/fourth hand.

Paddy suspect is between 12-18m was sold to a woman for a 'present' for her boyfriend - they subsequently split up boyfriend has another woman in his life who has a young son who is allergic to dogs? not sure how true that is.

The man Dave - handed Paddy over to a lady to see how she got on with him and then didnt' go back for him ... he doesn't want money just a good home.  This lady is 'fostering' him.  The lady can't keep him long term and he is too much for her and has health problems.  He is being walked by another lady who is taken with him but can't take him on.

I suggested to the lady that walks him (who is on the forum) why hasn't the breeder been contacted... papers are with the ex-girlfriend and this is where it all gets a bit shady..  The foster carer doesn't seem to want to contact or try and push for the breeder to be contacted and the lady who walks him is worried about pushing this?

He is microchipped and I suggested perhaps they check the microchip as possibly still in breeders name?

Bit of a long shot but wondering if anyone recognises or sold a pup to Motherwell - Dave as one of owners.

I'll try and add a picture of him playing - he looks a delightful boy - I just know that setter breeders provide lifetime support so really would like to try and help this boy x

Age is a rough guess too...

if he can be scanned by a vet or dog warden, the owner can be traced  and perhaps they will sign him over to a I S Rescue

I S Rescue has been advised but as I am just trying to help the lady who walks him (isn't the fosterer) its all very difficult :(

I have suggested the scanning too - but seems the fosterer is not very willing to trace breeder or contact rescue!!!

I just thought if we could pinpoint the breeder then they may be able to help???  I feel so sorry for him he needs his forever home as soon as possible.

poor paddy hope someone gives him a permanent home soon .

Sadly as I said I only know this information from a forum and the walker but I will see if I can push the microchip and see if she will pursuade the foster carer but I think she is worried she will alienate her and then Paddy may lose out on his walks.

Thanks I will try - I just know how passionate the breeders are and maybe it might ring a bell the story being bought by girlfriend for her boyfriend Dave.

Sorry I knew it was a longshot x

I'v heard via another forum that this young dog is now in his third home. His breeder has still not been found, and it seems he may not be in his current home long, he's apparently left alone for 8-9 hours a day.

Paddy is about 12-18 months old, and living in Motherwell Scotland. Does this ring any bells with anyone?

Where is Paddy's breeder? he needs her.....................

Have you got any proper evidence that the dog is being neglected or being left for such long periods?

I'm afraid that word of mouth would not be sufficient to help with this dog's case.

If not, it might be helpful to get some proof.... dates, times, photo's, witnesses and then you can inform the RSPCA or local dog warden of your concerns.

They would insist on seeing the dog and scanning it for identification purposes.

Unfortunately, the breeder would not be able to do much more unless the dog was sold with a signed contract agreeing that it could not be sold or re-homed without first contacting the breeder for assistance.

Of course you're right Val, there is alot of hearsay to this story. However my unknown cyberfriend is distressed by the plight of this young dog,and is asking for help in trying to find his breeder.

I saw the story on this and several other dog forum web sites, and being as it's my breed, I decided to offer to help. All we'd like to do is raise awareness of Paddy's situation, in the hope that he had a decent breeder, one that cares for her puppies welfare all their lives, and would move heaven and earth to get him back if she knew he was in trouble, or at least one that would offer support to the owner incase they came into difficulties with the dog. I fear we may never find her....or him.

I just hope and pray that young Paddy gets settled into a forever home soon.

I really hope there will be a happy ending to this sad story and that Paddy gets the quality of life he deserves.

Having started this - I wish that I could do more and would like to be able to persuade all involved to do the right thing but so much information is third hand and also so far away.

Thanks for also trying to help Dawn x
