Just The One!

For those of us limited to just one Setter...there must be more people than just me :-(

I am limited to just one setter at the moment but i am very happy with this, i dont think i would have another as now is not the right time. Who knows what the future will bring, i think it would be an English but i have always wanted to have a full set so maybe a Gordon who knows.

it is my choice. I have always just had one and a couple of cats. I am not into showing and I just enjoy Molly's company. She is such an good dog and back to training soon when they resume after the summer holidays. Too hot here now. She really loves that and I can see going maybe further. We live in the suburbs and I think one dog is enough.

Hi Sheree, I hope it is okay that I joined your group because I am currently owned by 4 English Setters but I was in a similar situation to yourself a few years ago. I have owned English Setters for 20 years. I have never been interested in breeding. I purchased Jessie to show in 1990 but she was diagnosed with serious hip displaysia. Jessie meant more to me than showing. None of my English Setters have ever coped with being left alone. For instance Jessie's companion was a longhaired dachshund, Benmore. If Benmore had to stay at the vet, I had to ask a friend to mind Jessie while I was at work. The reasons I have owned more than 1 dog is because I have always had to work full-time and because I grieve very deeply and what usually happens is that at some time another dog is "sent" to me. Due to ill health and other reasons I did not work for a while and during this time I only owned 1 English Setter, Hobson. Because I was with him all the time, he was happy being an only dog. The reason Rose came to our family is that I was phoned by a woman who knew about my search for Beau who did not want to keep her anymore. She was 7yo and not in a healthy state and I could not refuse her. Then later on that year Hammer was retired from the show ring and I was asked if I would take him. I could not refuse Hammer either because he is Beau's litter brother. My life would feel empty if I was not owned by an English Setter. Susan.

    Hi Sheree

I'd love to join, does having one English and one Irish count?

  • Henry's Mom

Hi Sheree, Thank you for inviting me to join "Just the One". I have enjoyed my boys and girls over the last 45yrs. The most at one time was 5 Red's and Red and White's. They are all so wonderful in their own special way.

Henry is "Just the One" now and totally spoiled!!!! But is very well behaved, A super star. Bye the way I see I am number 13. This is my lucky number..

    Hi Sheree,

Thanks for the invite! Great idea!

Mind you, if I manage to get a Red and White, does that mean I'll be thrown out?!?!?! Lol!

    Hi Sheree,

Although I don't fit the profile..( wehave 12 ES) ..I do like your initiative and when your message not send in error or kicked out..:).. will join.

Now putting on my fire suit...but think one dog is ofeten a so called humanized dog as most of these dogs have no equal companion, no reference, no equal mate to play with, seek comforting, learn from another 4-legged etc. No crtics mend!..just my opinion!

    Best regards,

    Mike
