How many Irish Setters do you have?
One now: Glenvarna Fire And Ice At Hooley (Mulligan)
How long have you owned Irish Setters?
37 years
About Me:
My first dog was a much loved Corgi called Bryn.
My previous Irish were:
Kerrigan Amber Dream (Oliver)
Twoacres Joker The Hooley (Flynn)
Twoacres Fergus (Fergus)
Cymbeline Fallon By Hooley (Geordie)
I taught 4 -7 year olds for 17 years and often used to take my first Irish Setter into school. He loved being with the children and they loved being with him. The favourite place to be at story time was next to Oliver!! He was affectionately known as Ollie and many generations of children grew up thinking of Irish Setters as Ollie dogs!!

I got into showing when I retired. Oliver died suddenly only two months after I stopped teaching and as the house was so empty I just knew that I had to have another Irish. I was lucky enough to get a puppy from the late Mrs June Coates (Twoacres). He was Twoacres Joker The Hooley, (Flynn). We went on a steep learning curve together as we found our way around the show world. I very quickly became hooked on this new past time and an obsession began. Over the years I have learnt so much and met so many wonderful friends, all through a shared interest and love of this magnificent breed.

I am on the B Judging list for Irish Setters in the UK and have also judged English Setters, Gordon Setters and Irish Red & White Setters at Open Show level. I was secretary of the East Midlands Social Region of the ISBC in the UK for 14 years and a committee member for 18 years.

As well as showing when possible, I like writing, so often contribute items to the ISBC Newsletter. I also have a particular interest in health matters concerning the breed.
Why are you applying for membership?
B. I am a dog and my owner is at work all day

  • Lynn Spencer

Hi Michelle. Thankyou for your reply. Yes, it's so very hard to lose your precious Irish. We had that happen when we lost our first Irish girl very suddenly almost 8 years ago now. I will never forget her. She was very full on and definately your 'typical' Irish. She taught us everything about the Irish breed and she is why we love Setters so much today. My Irish girl Tess is like your Oliver. Very 'untypical'. She is very quiet and calm and just a delight to have in our family. She is my shadow. Megg (our English girl) is quiet & calm also, but a more independent nature. Both girls are the light of my life.
It's nice to be your friend.

Lynn & Tess (Irish) and Megg (English) from Oz.
  • Michelle Webster

    Dear Lynn,

It never ceases to amaze me how different they all are in character, even when they are closely related. Geordie, Fergus's son, is so like him to look at and also in lots of his ways, but he is also so very much like Flynn, who was only his Great Uncle. It's amazing how the genes jump the generations.
    Best wishes,
    Michelle

thanks for the extreme grooming photos. Amazing amount of skilled work involved, and I'm sure if the poodles did'nt enjoy all the fuss it would have been impossible.

    Hello Michelle,
If you go into my blogg-posts and scroll right down you will find it. It is far back in time and the title is about Wendover Gentleman...
    No problem finding it!
Even further down amongst the blog-posts you will find photos of several old Wendover dogs.
Hope you can find it OK and thank you for the kind comment on my photo! :-)
  • ursula wilby

    Hello again Michelle...
I found three photographs I put out, they are under my photos.
If you press the "look at all"-button, you will find them on page 4 + 5.
Camilla Östman then did a photoshop of Jeeves and put it out as a discussion.

No, no books translated in to english, but quite a few stories in the Dog World Annual. Amongst them one that Reni found and put on my page under comments. That one was about Crufts, and I was most pleased with the basset..
Hope you can find the photos...(and the piece on Crufts).
  • beverley mercer

Hello Michelle, thank you for your kind comments on my kids! I spend almost all my spare time with them in some way or another, but wouldn't change that for the world! I was sorry to hear Oliver passed so quickly after you gave up teching (in my job I admire you, kids are definately second to the most disobedient irish I ever had!) The site is very addictive like you said, and after having the pups for many years, I'm always learning about the breed, take care

    Hello Michelle,

I am sorry to read that your dog has epilepsy as well. Is your dog on medication?

    Astrid.
  • Joan Clancy

Hi Michelle, I enjoyed seeing the photo of "Paige" as I have a littermate (Malachy) who has done well here in USA, becoming a CH under 3yrs of age. Several other siblings (and 1/2 siblings) also have their photos available on this site...
My JohnJoe was 3/4 British (Is Lurgavon considered british or Irish?) and I ADORED that dog!! I guess I've always been partial to the mix. This is Malachy... (not unlike Paige, but in an "american" trim, lol). // Joan
  • Joan Clancy

Sorry Michelle... I'm not good at this photo thing. My pics only show up properly on the main photo page. I'll put this one there. (I don't know WHY it looks all stringy here).
    Joan
  • Joan Clancy

We like the same type of dog then : ) My Timmy has Devon (Good Fortune) on both sides of his pedigree!!
Paige/Malachys breeder Rosemary Kerr has a page on here, but not too many pictures. Suzy Menard (who owns their sire) is also a member, and has photos of Bozo (their sire) and brother "Chopper", Am CH and JH - maybe their sister "Libby". Also check out Ginger Kenneys who has 1/2 sister, Brea (different american sire). Joan
  • Annemarie Davies

    Hi Michelle
It's been the same on this side of the hills - too much to do and not enough hours in the day!! I really like what you are doing with the Pedigress, I did a 10 generation Pedigree for Storm in the early 90's and know how time consuming and addictive it is. I have only glanced at some of yours, but they seem to match my research !!!!!!!!!!
Take care and talk soon - maybe this coming weekend ? (I am on nights from tonight and going shopping now)
    Love A/M
  • Linda Baldry

Thanks Michelle, I thought I was right. I have looked on your site and found it very interesting.

  • Gillian Kennedy-Sloane

Hi michelle - think I've joined!!!
  • Joan Clancy

Good morning Michelle! Thank you so much for adding my boys to your site! I've peeked at Malachys page already, Dana is not an Am CH... but that is the only thing that does't seem right. // Joan
