Portia was the first Irish I owned in 1975, however grew up with Joanmas Lollipop who we got in 1964.I regularly showed my mothers dogs from 1972.
About Me:
I love irish setters . I mainly have show dogs but have working irish as well which i train for field trialling.I have had a full champion CH Astleys Portia of Rua who was the first Irish to win BIS at CRUFTS in 1981 and a field trial champion FTCH Rua Connemara of Porschet.I have also owned and worked a Gordon Setter Lusca Black Shadow at Porschet and a Pointer Ferglen Feroda at Porschet who also won awards at field trials.I have also handled my mothers Irish Red and White setters at trials and have taken them shooting with me.I also have been successful with my show pointers. I am a championship show judge of Irish Setters and have also judged some field trials on Partridge and Grouse.Outside dogs i enjoy playing tennis, piano/keyboard/guitar and reading. This keeps me fairly occupied.
hi Colette, thanks a lot for your comment on my kangaroo girl. she is a real joy to own, always ready for anything, let it be show, work or just simple everyday fun.
You know what it's like, I cannot just go to bed although I would love to, THANKS for the info. I didn't take in the puppies, thought that it was Nigel's pup but didn't know which one.....I think that I will try that bed thing now, good night!!!
All the best Dee and the girls
Thank you, she seems to have been in puppy for ever but I see she is 1 year old today. Enjoy whats left of the Easter, it's a lovely sunny day down here in Cornwall again.
Yes I did mean Carmenere and I too am glad she is going up into Junior. It's always exciting bringing out new puppies and especially this time of year when there are plenty of shows to choose from. I always seem to have puppies that come out for the end of the year and the shows from November to March are quite limited and Willow only has one more month in puppy and then she will be up with the big girls. Thank you for the invite as a friend, I cannot invite people to be friends or join groups as it is my work computer and it just doesn't seem to do some things properly.
Hi Colette, thanks for the congrats. I am of course very proud of my boy - the 7th DELSANTO Show Champion. See you soon no doubt. Best wishes Chris & Zac!
Hi Collette, Hope you are keeping well? Are you at the Spring trials, if so good luck if you are running / judging or just watching, wish I could be there. Best wishes to you and all your family.
Hi Colette,
i have an 11 mth pup from show lines, he is very intelligent and needs to do something more stimulating than showing I would like to try and train him to work to do what they were bred for with a view to poss competing if we get to a high enough standard. i am looking for a local trainer but would appreciate any advice as I ain't got a clue where to start.
Thanks
Kirsty
Hi Colette! Thanks for comment. Im not keeping any of the puppies in this litter, in case of wondering. In my opinion, the dogs need a good exterior in show, but also in hunting(work), cause they have to keep up the work for some hours. They should be good as gundogs and in the showring. Their mother(Dalriach Highpoint) got an 4 BIS and CACIB on a big show in Norway, she only a CACIB in Sweden and then she is an International Show Champion. But she has also been in the final many times on hunting tests(I don't know what you call it.. )
Thanks for your comments on Echlin, Colette. Yes he's looking like a youngster at eleven years old. His breeding is Moanruad 3/4, old Hartsbourne/Derrycarne 1/4. For me, a once in a lifetime dog.
Thank you, its a bit of a shock for us all - this tiny person is all of a sudden ruling the house !! The boys are really good with her, especially Alfie, he takes great interest in everything that goes on. Fagan on the other hand like to steal her blanket / bibs / socks !! All good fun.

Hi Colette, thank you for kind words. All of my dogs are show dogs, lot of exelent results on dog show competitions. Babyes on the photos have great predispositions for good show dogs. (parents and grandparents results). I hope they will find good new owners. Greets from Serbia
Hi there Colette.
Thanks for the comment on the blog..will write privately and give you the update on what happened, all came too fast to get any of the things that we discussed.
Speak soon and thanks Dee and the girls
Hi there Colette
Oh I was thrilled to see him go G1 BOB was great but G1 the icing on the cake, and Saffy seems to be bulging at the seams with puppies.
I have heard of a few youngsters that have gone through the ''spooky'' stage. It must be really difficult to know what to do.
Have you got any picture of the babies?? who is their mum and dad??
As I said Congratulation..
Dee and the girls
Thank you so much Colette, that is really kind of you, she is still getting bigger and bigger, Can a dog explode????Ha Ha....Not having done this for so long I only hope that I am up to the job...I am sure she will be...
Thanks for all your help at the beginning. Greatly received. Will let everyone know how it goes, only another 5/6 days.
All the best Dee and the girls
Hi Colette - Yes, Carly has been described as having the wise look of an "old soul", yet is filled with the vibrancy & playful spirit Setters are well known for - she's a real love, as are all the setters on this website!
Dear Colette, I just put a foto on my side from my setter you judge in 1991; Ambitious Abony of the Hunter's Home. You made him best dog of the day. He then was only 17 months old. I can still remember that day! You wrote a lovely report, that I still have.
Bixby (as he was called) died in 2005 15,5 years old. He was a lovely dog.
Hi there Colette,
I got them via Nicole, I think that she got them off EBay, they have a sticky end they stick to themselves. I cut the first ones down the middle, and I have had to change them once already, I also have collars for them when they get a bit older. It has made life so much easier, I have only two with any white on them, all the rest are all red, all over. It helps with your records ie weight gain, etc. I must say that they are really difficult to put on, only because the puppies are at the real wriggly stage, and the sticky stuff sticks to everything and anything, but when you get the hang of it is really easy, (with a little bit of help from your friends), try on EBay ''Puppy ID Collars''
Good luck thanks for the comments on the photos Dee and the gang

Hi there Colette
No not a closely guarded secret, just a lack of photographic skills, many blurred tails and noses etc by the time I get them in the picture and press the shutter they are long gone, but will keep trying, Tania has his brother she has put some nice pictures on her site. when I get him to myself, (I still have three here at the moment, two going to EU so just waiting for passports) I will I hope do better, that was always on my school reports ''could do better'' keep watching it may come soon..Dee and the gang
ps they are all at the very leggy stage at the moment.
Hi Colette, thanks for admiring the photo and also for your comment in the blog. I still plan to answer there - that way others can read a bit about some of the working discussions.
