How many Irish Setters do you have?
After loosing my beautiful girl Jasmine...(aka Irish Show Champion Caspians Modesty JW) I now only have two Irish again....Kirkavagh Darara At Mayfred (Saffy) and her son Mayfred Mr Magnifico (Findlay) I have now added another wonderful baby to my house, so am back to three...
How long have you owned Irish Setters?
since 1971
About Me:
I am retired and my life revolves around my grandchildren and my dogs. If I am not with one I am with the other. We all like going on country walks, and to the beach, I spend a lot of time traveling to and from shows, both in Scotland/England and Ireland. Saffy and Fin travel to the shows with me, but I only show Fin at the moment, he is doing very nicely for me in his first couple of years in the ring, and is enjoying, (probably too much), his show career. Because he is a very naughty boy at times...But has learned that his 'job' is in the ring. And he loves it..
Just added my new baby girl...Suteresett Mine Mine Mine at Mayfred....she is by Mr Jingles out of Suteresett Black Magic....she is at the moment a typical baby, into everything but she is all Mine.a little treasure. and she has settled into our house as though she has been here forever..

    Hello Dee,
Thank you for your nice comment about my pups. Really appreciate it.
    How is you boy?
  • Anna Kazimierowicz

    Hello Dee,
that topic youngster was so funny.... and true. I can't imagine different way of life with setters (Akitas as well;))) Sofas comes, sofas gone, so do dogs... but they are much more important.

Here is "my" sofa photo, in fact is taken in my friends' (airedale owners) home. Seniors Kika and my Bajka are on sofas, youngsters (Pielgrzym, left, and Kruszyna) should wait your turn;)))
  • Anna Kazimierowicz

    Hi Dee,
15 years! splendid age! My Bajka is "only' 12,5 old now. Two years ago I lost my Pielgrzym, he was only 7, I was really sick at haert when he died. Only now I can speak about it and see his pictures. I missed him very much, he was my cuddly toy.
Airedale Kika is a best friend of my irish since their first day. We have sometimes funny meetings with other dogs because Kika (really fierce bitch) regards my dogs as only yours and can attack when any other dogs would like to join their pack. We spend together a lot of time;)))

Greetings from Poland full of snow!!!

    Hi Dee :)
I just want to say that today Newton two times pointed birds :) I think he may be really good in it ;)
  • Anna Wymyslowska

I bought this jumper one month ago so it is quite small right now but we have -20 C today. They say tommorow it will be even colder :(
I got Newton pedigree on Wednesday but we don't have many shows in winter. He will have his firsh show at the end of March or at the beginning of April.
  • Anna Kazimierowicz

    Oh, Dee,
I know exactly how it is to have a hens hunting dog, few times beeing countryside I forgot to take Bajka on a lead and she chase hens in a sb yards. Lot of feather around and a some insults at me:(((
Luckily she never caught and ate any ...
I know not only one Newton is in Poland, but he is in Warsaw. I'm glad Anna has a new red, she is so devoted to the breed. I'm sure I'll meet her at some show soon, that will be a pleasure for me to hug him:)))) I love puppies, tommorow i'm visiting some new born (3.day)!!!

    Cheers
    Anna with oldies
  • Lise-Lotte Persson

    Hi Dee
What about your nice puppy? It would be so nice to see a picture of him!
  • Laura Kolbach

thanks Dee, know exactly what you mean. i loved Odin's wisdom and calm temperament and Danka is so much different, so silly and so clever and i really really don't want it to be differently! she cheers me up every day in these hard days.
    hugs to you all
    laura & danka
  • Laura Kolbach

hi Dee, Danka is doing very well, she knew already in the night of 31st Dec what was going to happened. she would not lie next to Odin (and they always slept together earlier). she was always depressed when my dad took Odin for a week or so and she had to stay alone but not now. that's why i think she knows exactly what has happened. for animals death is normal and their way to accept this is so much wiser.
i am doing good with regard to the circumstances, no more hysterical crying all day long. i even can talk and write about what has happened. but yes, i think a lot on Odin and yes, i still cry. but more that silent crying of missing her so terribly.
    take care, laura
  • Marta Galuszka

    Hello Dee,
Can understand you with those standing problems. My dogs always have something better to do than that;) But at least I have people who can take me a standing photo although they are always unhappy when I am asking about it;)
Saw the pictures you added lately - your boy has lovely head!
  • Anna Wymyslowska

  • Susan Mogony

Thx! i had a super day!
  • Henk ten Klooster

Hello Dee, a direct source=breeders parents of the dog, in a pvte e-mail they said we have info like bloodsamples, pedigrees, collected over five years. He recently joined this site - John van den Berg, following the topic already for quite some time. Again congratulations on your openness, if everybody would have this attitude a lot could be prevented! No e-mail received. Henk.
  • Deborah Christopher

    Hi Dee
How is Findlay doing, my pup Lily has just eaten her way through her 2nd leather sofa and unfortunately in the 30 minutes it took for me to pick my daughter up from school has just ripped 4 out of 6 dining chair seats!! Her mother never chewed a thing so she must get it from her dad!!! The other dogs are really miffed at having to go back to dog baskets.
    All the best, Deborah
  • Kim Murray

  • Linda Baldry

Well done Dee on your 2nd Place in Minor Puppy Dog - your baby looked lovely in his class, keep up the good work x
  • Deborah Christopher

    Hi Dee
Hope all is well with you and the dogs, its snowing here again today! I wanted to ask your advice on buying a male puppy maybe at the end of this year. Since Jinney's bloat I've been reading a lot about it and am very apprehensive about buying a puppy with bloat in his lines, how do I avoid such a pup? Having had setters for so long and this being my first 'bloat' case, is bloat wide spread and have I just been lucky or is it just certain lines? As you can tell the more I think about it the more I confuse myself!!
    Deborah
  • Deborah Christopher

    Hi
Yes, your email address would be great. The only thing different the day before was that she was in season and the Great Dane was trying to hump her all the time. Her breeding is Gintei Mai Tai which is Jonola Hotspice and Thendara Kennedy and sire is Gintei Rusty Rover which is Haremach Golddust Lady and Gintei Harvey Wallbanger. Her pedigree is very interbred after much research. Have looked at many pups pedigrees recently but not knowing much about their history it would be very much a guess. I would like to show the puppy though. Any advice would be great.

  • Anna Wymyslowska

    Hi Dee,
thanks for your comments. Newton indeed has very long neck. I think it makes him look bigger than he is. You are right he knows a command 'stay' but only in the garden, at home or when he is on the leash ;)
