Hi Mike, Gunner looks a handsome boy (",)

Hi, once you have a Setter you won't want any other breed (",)
  • Julia Grace

I agree with Ellen. Prepare yourself for a lifelong addiction to red because no other breed will do now :-D
  • Ellen Turberfield

I'm the same with my boy Finlay, now that my daughters have grown up and left it's just me and my boy (",)

    Thanx Mike,

They're a pair all right. As litter mates, they couldn't be more different in terms of appearance and personality. it's why I love 'em. How old is your boy now? He do ok w/ the heat down there?

  • rob winemaker

They are a labor of love of course. We had a hot summer their first year and Keba ran all his weight off till we put a stop to that. Now when it's hot, they stay under the big maples. We have a small pond but that leads to its own set of problems like mud and dirt everywhere.

We're hoping to try some skijoring before winter is over. Know someone who is going to loan me a harness and belt. They totally love the snow.

Hi Mike, glad we are setter friends! I always feel I'm a little closer to my girls lines when I have friends in the states! Litter sisters Ruby & Poppys grand dad is a Greengate Irish setter, making them larger setters ( which I love ) . The girls are smaller than my big boy Flame.....thank god as I don't think I could keep up with them otherwise. What are the other breeds that have "owned you"? We have two retrievers (duck/fox) but are our family furkids along with the Irish. As others have mentioned.....redheads are an addiction :o)))
Look forward to sharing Setter stories. Take care Dianne and furkids
PS... Thank you for your reply on dog theft, it has so changed me! A Neighbour breeds Australian Shepards and two went missing this week from secure crates, they have since come home. All very worrying.

Hi Mike, my girls are around 30kgs (not good at conversion) and on the petite side I guess been what they like in the show ring here in Australia! My boy is 40kgs stands 77cms and not one bit over weight....just the way I remember Irish been as I grew up and what I love. Yes big breeds are what our family love too! Our children all own Newfoundlands, only one kelpie working dog we own on the farm (and he still is loved just like all the others) out of the 16 dogs our family own. Lol. Sounds like your boy will be a lovely big Irish setter...I hope to get another big boy one day but I'll be in the dog house if I did now!
  • Dianne cook

Sorry you missed some of the comment,....modern technology! You say Weimaraner was one your past dogs, it was always my fathers too ! Love the drive the hunting dogs gave and energy, you most certainly have picked the top of the list for energy. Lucky Gunner isn't a puller my girls aren't too bad I do obedience and agility with them which helps. Great you can be at home with Gunner growing up, that will save the sofa, rugs, mattress, garden and anything else that looks tempting to destroy .......lol.....I think that's only half what my "wild Irish roses" have done .....take care Dianne
  • Mike

Hi Cornelia, Your welcome, and thank you for accepting. You have some really great photos on your page. It shows that you have had a lot of experience with photography. It was a pleasure to see them all.

  • Dianne cook

Too true Mike.....ball destroying or their own toys much better than my lovely sofa!! Recently visited the breeder and my girls mum was still bouncing from sofa to sofa to greet me!!! (She is now eight ....doesn't look like they will be growing up any time soon :o)
    And yes, the halti/gentle leader a wonderful invention....won't need a shoulder re-co!!
  • Fran Griffin

Hi Mike, I am very happy to be your friend. Your young boy, Gunner certainly is handsome and adorable. Welcome to ES!! Warm wishes from Susan and her English Setters, Hobson and Misty and her horses, Hallmark, Charlamayne and Khatlayst and our White Faced Heron family member, Sam

  • Eunice Marott

Molly is our third is she is my baby having a ball at the pet resort while we find somewhere that is pet friendly to stay
  • Valerie Short

Hi Mike thanks for inviting me to be your friend and liking my photographs. I love looking at the photographs, there are some very talented photographers on here. Your boy looks gorgeous, we have only had one Setter puppy and she seemed to grow too quickly. Our first Setter was a lovely rescue boy Toby so very clever. We later had the puppy Bridie and a 1year old Lena who was breed for showing so we had a go at that. Quite successful for novices. We then took on Bonnie who's owner became unwell and then our present beautiful boy Bracken.. I'm sure you will have lots of good times with Gunner.
  • Anna Kazimierowicz

    Hi Mike,

thanks for the friend invite and comment on my photos.  This site is a treasure of photos and stories about our beautiful and crazy setters. I'm sure you will have a lot of fun with Gunner.

  • Sue Paterson

Hi Mike. Pleased to accept your friend request. Callum was 4months in the photo.

You have a lovely boy there.

  • Eunice Marott

thanks... yes I miss Molly very much. Yours is a real cutie.

  • Eunice Marott

Not quite sure what u mean maybe I am miles away
  • Eunice Marott

No drama but Australia has very strick laws for bring animals here because we do not have rabies. Nz is even worse even from Australia
We r moving locality Molly can't be with us because we r in a hotel while looking it is costing a fortune
Wish me luck housing is very expensive and allowing pets is a problem sometimes. We r in Sydney
  • Eunice Marott

Dogs are not allowed in hotels etc only assistance dogs don't think Molly qualifies for that although she is very obiedant the best of the three I have owned
  • keller cathy

    Merci pour l'invitation. :-)

Thank you for the friend request, Mike. I haven't been on the site much recently, but the people and info are awesome! Gunner is darling!

  • Ellen Turberfield

Hi Mike, I've heard about that tool but not used it, Finlay has some on his back legs too, I know some people hand strip which is really just pulling it out, Finlay has some come on top of his head and I do remove them like that as a women at Crufts showed me last year, I'm going again to Crufts tomorrow as it's Gundog day so lots of Irish Setters I'm hoping to get some more grooming tips, if I get any tips on the legs I'll let you know (",)
  • Ellen Turberfield

Hi Mike, I had a great day at Crufts, I asked a few people about the fluff, some used that tool some just plucked them out, said it was dead hair, so think it's what you feel better doing, I'm trying to do Finlay's feet at moment, but it's hard as he hates his feet being touched (",)
  • Kimberly Simmons

Oh my gosh, I found this site while researching IS and breeders also. I lived vicariously through others on this site from August through March when I finally received my " bundle of Joy" lol

  • Rebecca

Thanks for the friend request and comment on the photo of Murphy!  I had forgotten how young he looked then ... he was just over a year (we think - I was a rescue so we aren't sure of his dob).  Since then we have had to say goodbye to Luna, but we have a puppy Gordon.  Love your Gunner and look forward to following his progress!

  • Sherry Miller

Mike thank you for the friend request. You are at the start of one of the most amazing journies with your first Irish Setter, .They steal your heart forever, add laughter to your life, frustrate you sometimes, but always with the Irish Setter spirit that shows us to them life is a game and you are the favorite playmate to share it with,. Enjoy Gunner and know help is never far away on ES.
