I think the head shape has changed over the years, but my reds ares still very much along these lines.

Derrycarne Harp, the first postwar import from Ireland to the Netherlands, was the ggd of Redsun Regan. Harp, called Kells, fascinated me when visiting the O'Cuchulain kennels in the Netherlands as a boy. This is when this picture was taken, she threw her puppie son my bed and the awakening was when the pups were chewing me   :-) She was very alert, strong and basic, the type of Irish setter I was used to walk along the river the IJssel since four years of age, swim, fish etc. Her daughter at the time of the visit was Ailean O'Cuchulain (called Poppet) who was simply adventure. This was the litterpick of the ex-chairman of the ISCN Johan Schouten, but she differed from the leading type those days in shows and the lineage almost vanished, through busy years active as a reporter, I was able to maintain some in a few litters. Wim van Gemert wrote about that aspect in the jubileebook of ISCN, 1975. Still there was some offspring winning in field and show in Germany. In the eyes of Van Gemert, one day a breeder would be able to manage the resurrection of the lineage if there would be enough linking lineage. In my eyes, after ten generations, this time has come. It is very interesting to see that quite a few Derrycarnes were the ideal of a dual Irish setter, competent as companion, working, showing etc.

Last posted picture of Derrycarne Harp (Kells) was taken when she was enjoying her old days by Wim Zweverink, second owner of the O'Cuchulain kennels, somewhere in the seventies. In 1978, Wim died in a tragical accident with a glider and loss of this lineage began. Around a month ago, after a quarter of a century with nearly no contacts, his son Wilfred visited me after contacts via Facebook. His children were playing with Redwing Last Apache Standing, generation ten of Derrycarne Harp, one of Wilfreds favorites as a boy.
