Our dear granny Wanda died in my arms after a weekend of grousecounting.
She never showed any signs of tiredness, she was full of energy all weekend. This picture was taken 3 hours before her death. She has her son and co-worker Woitto beside her.
When our job was done, just 200m from our Range Rover Wanda collapsed and died in seconds. I had her head in my hands. Her master carried his hard worker from her favourite mountain area. The…

Me and my 7 setters are an amusement to our fellow neighbours and turists in our hometown. Everytime I take my setters to visit our little town we get a lot of eyes on us :)
We wonder why? ;)
Today one of our friends had to take a picture of us. She said "this has to be documented" :)
And after a nice walk we went back home…

Our winter has passed well and has now turned into spring. Though somebody wonders "what spring, they have snow?". Well finnish Lapland is snowy till May and our spring starts when we have enough daylight for exsample taking pictures…

Our days in dark polar night are soon over. The Sun is showing up for the first time in two months the 17th of January. Daylight is on a clear day somewhat enough for my lense...
Our little finnish-scottish A-Peli is partly enjoying the cold (we had -36 C for a week) and partly not. The not-part is the lack of exercise. No living creature can be out with those minus degrees!
Thank god the temperature warmed up to -15 and we had the…

Was it a year ago, I posted something here? So I remember. I haven´t been so active cause this site has turned out so full of (sorry to say) dull show pictures.
But here we are,

Our enormous group setters spent a wonderful weekend in the "fjell" the finnish mountain area.
Our youngest member A-Peli (Flamefild´s Evita / Rushfield Finn) is a full grown hunter already. Or a least he is trying to be as reaching and able as the others.
He is only 15 weeks and owns quite a body and muscle( + the ears) for running…

12.5. our lappish world was turned over when 10 huge IS puppies were born. Unluckily 2 huge(400-450g)boys were born dead. There just was not enough room for the lost ones. Their "bags"were torn and they did not get out soon enough :(
But we have 2 huge girls(360g and 380g) and 6 big guys(325g-390g) with us.
No wonder Evita was a little "fed up" when carrying!?…

The snow covered mountains of ours have started to melt because of a heatwave. Well this won´t last long as we know summer can not arrive in lapland yet.
Grouses have started mating season though and they are super nice to dogs. They stay put and dogs have time to inhale wonderful scents of grouse-perfume
I trained obedience with these tamed grouse…

After a long period of silent times we are back in pictures :)
The weather is nice and temperatures are nearly on the + side. Spring is always coming slowly up here in Lapland...
Grouse situation is looking good. Those we missed in the fall have come back. Where ever they left us, we don´t know ?but the important thing is that grouses are seen in big flocks. Those big flocks are…

Plus he recieved the 3.prize in open class. He would have recieved the first prize if my husband would´ve shot the grouse down but snowy terrain makes it usually hard to succeed in shooting a white grouse in winter trials...and finnish rules are strict...:(
The judge was from Norway, Roger Halvari from Vadsö. We had 31 dogs starting in the trials. Only 3
setters won prizes. IS Håkoya´s C-Spitfire and IS Finby Chico were prized with…

My Wanda turned 10 years old on Friday the 20th of March.
Happy birthday my dear!
You are still young as a puppy and you have been one of the best huntingdogs ever. Hundreds of grouses have been shot with your help and you have spred out the word of irish setter being an exellent hunting dog to hundreds of clients.
When seeing you work many hunters have wanted a setter like you for a hunting companion.…

Flamefield´s Evita has been succesfully mated with scottish import Rushfield Finn. Both young parents to be(hopefully)
have healthy hips (Evita A/B , Finn A/A) Evitas elbows are 0/0. Both of them are CLAD free and their eyes are clear of all inheritable diseases. Evita is genetested by Optigen.
Both parents hip index are well above the average.
Here is the mom
