Home for Irish Setter Lovers Around the World

To you all,
It is with great sadness that I wanted to let you know that my bitch Brackenfield Forsythia (Anna) died earlier this week of suspected meningitis. She was rather unwell on Sunday afternoon and collapsed in a coma on arrival at the vet. Although my vet said it is rather rare I know of at least 2 if not 3 cases in Irish setters in the last year. A strain of meningitis respond to steroid treatment but sadly she did not. She was 8 years old and the dam of my puppies. She will be buried in the paddock alongside my other setters.
We are all extremely upset at home.

Catherine,

Perdre un compagnon est toujours très douloureux. Nous sommes de tout coeur avec toi.

May the shamrocks fall gently around your lovely Anna as she crossed the bridge...run free pretty girl until we all meet again

Such sad news, my sincere condolences.

Does your vet think the meningitis could be due to a tick borne disease?
Our Bramble was ill with Babesiosis 5 years ago and we were lucky she got the correct treatment on time. The disease was then said not to be present in our area... but this has since changed.

I am so sorry for your loss, unfortunately we all know too well this feeling these lovely 'people' are not with us long enough there is only one way not to hurt like this and that is not to have these wonderful dogs our lives, and those lives would be very much lacking if we did that, have just read Ginger's comment and now the tears are falling, Dee and the girls
