Home for Irish Setter Lovers Around the World

I have just had a very rude phone-call from the people that own Tally basically telling me to mind my own business and not giving me the opportunity to say anything, I did manage to say that we had discussed the fact that if they were going abroad to please let me know, and was told that it wasn't my business where they went. And then she put the phone down on me...

Telling me that 'the dog' was in a boarding kennel. (this wasn't mentioned in any of the reports) and that they would be going back for her, It seems that she is totally lost to me now.

I cannot believe that this woman couldn't understand how worried I was about my puppy, fair enough she bought her, but I know that a lot of you out there will be the same as me...we breed these dogs not to just sell and throw away when they are paid for. But we feel responsible for them...

I also know that there are a lot of people out there in Libya that are having a great deal of difficulty, and a lot of people dying (as I was so rudely told just before she put the phone down on me) and that the dog is safe, I know this now, that she told me that, but I could only go by what was reported, that the dog had been left at the nearest vet that they know of, and there were about 100 other abandoned dogs there...

I am now really really angry and shocked that she could do something like this. And talk to me as if I had done something wrong by trying to find where she and the Tally were...

I thank everyone here for all their help and suggestions, and I would do the same again if I was in this situation. Though I doubt that I would be, I need to let my heart rule my head...not visa versa.

My puppies are always mine, and I feel dreadful that Tally was put in such a terrible situation... and thankful that I now know that she is safe...Well as safe as can be in a war zone...

Thanks again, now perhaps I can get some sleep....

Eva, this is no criticism to you, but, there is a lot about this case that you don't know, and you haven't actually dealt with this particular person..Why do you think I have felt so guilty about all of this???

As I said, yes I know and understand, that there is a lot of concern on their part, and the not knowing was the difficult part, for me. BUT all I wanted to do was find out if this puppy was OK, the media and the owners had said that she had been abandoned at a vet.

Do you not keep in touch with all of your puppies??? I know you do about Lois puppies, how would you feel if one of them was in a war zone. would you think, 'ah well it belongs to someone else so lets forget about it, especially if you didn't even know that it was abroad, and just walk away, after all they do have owners, I would hope not..I would hope that you would do the same as me and try and find out for yourself, and with the help of the good people on this site and a few other friends, I did actually find her. In Tripoli, and the vet where she was contacted her owners, and they phoned me, and the vet very kindly emailed me, that was all I wanted, finding out in the way that I did was a shock. I am not going to just sit there and hope that someone will eventually get in touch with me..If I could have helped to get her out of a bad situation then I would have...This to me is what every breeder should do, we should not just be there to produce puppies, and to collect the money...these are lives that we make a conscious decision to bring them into this word, and we should be responsible for them, after all I have flooded the market with puppies over the past 40 odd years, all 3 litters of Irish....this is why I don't have too many litters, finding really good homes for them all is so very difficult...

dee so glad youvre heard about tally and im disgusted with the owners for how they have reacted to you wanting to find her in that war torn country .i truly hope that you have been reassured that she is getting looked after because the little dear will be wondering whats happening to her not been with her owners then been caged up ect poor little thing.

you need to be admired rather than be critisized for wanting to know her whereabouts, thats a good breeder the first and foremost have the dogs interest at heart.its like when they are sold as puppies i remember the first words my laylas breeder said and that were if you have a change in circumstances that you cannot keep the puppy please bring her back to us . they have also been there for us with the problem we have had with layla been with when we have taken her places and i know they are only a phone call away if we need them (that is commitment of a good breeder )

im sure you are still going through all kinds of emotions as well as been angry please try not to worry about things that are out of your depth now so to speak .you have done your best as any breeder would have done in this situation

speak soon lyn layla and lucy xx

I cant imagine the heartbreaking choices this family had to make or the ordeals they have endured ..... When something awful is happening to us sometimes we dont react to others in a way folks expect .... Lets hope all works out for the family and their young dog ...... Time can change so much ...... Dee, dont be critical this family needs your best wishes and understanding just now, and I am sure in time they will appreciate your concern.......

Sleep well Dee - such a roller coaster of emotions. Your heart is in the right place and bless you for it. There is a day in the future when Tally will be reunited with her family - the glass has to be half full

Wow, I've not been online over the weekend and am now reading the update.  Thank goodness you know she is in safe hands Dee, I know it's not the same as being over here but, under the circumstances, it is possibly the safest place she can be over there.  I hope everything works out ok and that the owners take the time to let you know when she is back home so that you can rest easy xx

Dee, I was so sad to read of the heart ache and pain you have had over the last weeks worrying about Tally. You really are a fantastic person and we all know how you love all of YOUR puppies. I am eternaly greatful in the knowlage that you are at the end of the phone for me and Henry at all times be they happy, sad or just uncertain. I can't start to imagine what these people have been through and I prey that they and of course dear little Tilly are safe. Keep up the good work Dee.   Bless you and yours.  P&H  xxxx
