Home for Irish Setter Lovers Around the World
I would appreciate some help with trimming the neck of an Irish Setter.
I have just purchased a set of electric clippers and would like to know what number plastic blade cover to use.
Any other advise and hints would be good as I do not want to make a complete botch of the job on my first attempt.
Thank you,
Graham.
Graham, just sharing my own experience here and far from being an expert. I saw countless times my young boy being trimmed for shows, and I would tend to think that it will be easier for you to find someone who knows how to do it, look at this person doing it, and you having a go at it while the person is beside you. Also, many people will not use a clipper for the neck of an Irish setter, but rather the thinning scissors only.
I got "The Styling Academy" video where Dee Miligan Bott is explaining step by step how to groom an Irish setter, and for me, seeing it was extremely helpful.
Thank you for that Chantal,
I think I have watched that video through UTube.
I am not a fan of clipping the neck myself but in Australia the trend is to follow all things American, and it seems to me to have a small chance in the ring the neck needs to be trimmed. We used to just use the trimming scissors.
Hi Graham. Here in NZ the majority also use clippers. However, we think this looks dreadful so have trimmed UK style with just thinning scissors for many years. Including shortening the ear feathers. Let's face it the judge will either like your type or not and trimming won't make significant difference so it is what you are happy with. Have another look at Dee's video on YouTube or via the Thendara website.
Thanks for that Gayle, I guess you are right. At the end of the day it is still up to me and what I am comfortable with.
