I have always had set exercise routines with my Irish, which involves free running exercise totalling approx 2 hours daily. I have found this keeps my dogs happy and healthy. Now that I work at home, my dogs have their first walk/run when we get up…

Of course! But as Karen has said, we have six so only the two girls sleep with us at night but they all spend their days inside on the couch or where ever they prefer.

Hi Vivian We live at Akaroa, which is on Banks Peninsular on the east coast of the South Island. Our nearest major city is Christchurch, about an hour away.

Are you on the South Island of NZ? I have an email friend that lives outside of Auckland.

Hi Vivian. We came back to NZ at the end of September last year. Our six Irish are well travelled, five have been round the world once and Daisy has been from the UK to us, back to the Uk and then home here again! The litter belongs to a friend and…

I am lucky that whilst my Strider is the dad, our friends own the bitch! So I get to visit them and cuddle them but don't have the huge task of cleaning up after them. My friends did Evelyn proud and she even put on a bit of weight during the first…

How many Irish Setters do you have?
Six
How long have you owned Irish Setters?
Since 1975
About Me:
I have been 'owned' by Irish Setters since my first one in 1975. My dogs are my family and I have had a lot of fun loving, showing and breeding them. The type is English, predominantly Wendover. My husband and I live on our 20 acre olive grove with native woods and ponds overlooking Takamatua Bay. The dogs have the freedom of the property but insist on being escorted on their frequent walks during the day. Our dogs have always been house dogs and the two girls sleep with us while the boys have their summer house.

Rowena is being spayed tomorrow!

With much reluctance I have booked my beautiful Rowena in to be spayed tomorrow. At almost 9 years of age I know it is in her best interests but she is so gorgeous and such a shame that she never had a litter. Fingers crossed surgery goes well and she will recuperate quickly. She will be happy at no more seasons and no more shows and removing the risk of pyometra. Sigh, but I am rather sad.

Hi Gayle,
Ruby was the only entry and my lab won her class but didn't go any further. Probably wouldn't give him another entry,

Carmel

Hi Gayle,
thanks for the info. I was only going to enter one girl under him and my very naughty labrador. My boy is still growing coat and my other girl is in pup. Due to whelp on the 1st April. She is on Dogzonline...not a good photo taken when she was very young. Shadowvale Truely Magik...have mated her to Silvagem First Edition. Scan showed 8 pups with ?2 more up under her ribs. She is 2 1/2 years old and on 77points. In oz you need 100 to be a champion. Haven't shown her much and we are up against all american dogs...so can't complain..
Love your dogs. Especially the photo around the Christmas tree.
Will let you know how we go.

Hi Gayle,
would say we are a creatures who like to complain:) whenever is too hot or too cold, honestely saying now would be more than happy visiting you in NZ and having a sunbath insteed of scratching car's window everytime willing to go somewhere, and then plaing iceskating while being on the road:) indeed if it is about dogs, they complain a bit less everytime; dont have so hot even on summar over here but they alwasy find something to have fun, but snow it is something they Do really like, just not my girl, she hates when is either too hot or cold, just like a people do:) love seeing you and and hope to see more from you dogs on the photos.

I hope you have a great Christmas and New Year, will hopefully speak to you soon. I know what you mean about them healing so quickly and so well, Saffy was the same, she was back jumping about after a couple of days, we wouldn't be like that, I am sure that we would be crippled for many weeks, Saffy just loves all the tablets I think that it is an attention thing....any attention is good attention...All the best Dee and the girls

I know where your are coming from as to the ruptured uterus, I was told that my young girl had that, in my case it was lucky she didn't actually have anything wrong with her uterus....but they still opened her up....
Is your girl out of Wendover Lorna??? by Intrepid??? if she is, she is my girls Aunty.
Really sorry to hear that she has had that kind of problem, was it a 'Closed Pyometera' (not sure how to spell that) It is a difficult thing to get to the bottom of, you don't have any external visualisation, very difficult to notice, usually until it is too late, so you were very lucky, I hope she is going to be OK. I am sure with all your T.L.C. that she will be fine.
Hope to speak soon. Please let me know how she progresses, Dee and the girls
